Job description
The Deputy Head of Analytics supports the Head of Analytics in leading the Trustās analytical function, providing highly specialist expertise in data analysis, interpretation and insight generation across clinical and operational services. The role requires advanced knowledge of NHS data standards, information governance, and analytical tools, with responsibility for overseeing reporting governance, developing predictive and demand-and-capacity analytics, and introducing innovative analytical methods. The post holder manages and develops analytical staff, ensures high-quality and timely decision support for senior stakeholders, and represents the Trust on complex analytical matters, making this a senior leadership role requiring deep technical expertise and strategic insight., * Support the Head of Analytics with the day-to-day leadership and management of the Trustās analytics function.
- Provide specialist advice on data definitions, data quality, information standards, analysis and interpretation.
- Lead the development of routine, ad hoc and real-time reporting using tools such as SQL, Power BI and relevant reporting platforms.
- Manage and monitor the Trustās information gateway, ensuring effective governance around reporting requirements, design, development, testing and deployment.
- Translate complex analytical information into clear, accessible and user-friendly outputs for clinical, operational and senior stakeholders.
- Support planning, demand and capacity modelling, predictive analytics, benchmarking and scenario modelling across the Trust.
- Promote the development and use of self-service analytical products and forward-thinking analytical techniques.
- Ensure analytical outputs are accurate, timely, consistent and aligned with Trust priorities, national standards and information governance requirements.
- Lead analytical projects and provide decision-support to divisions, clusters, PMO, Quality Improvement, Finance and other key teams.
- Manage, supervise and develop analytical staff, including workload allocation, training, appraisals, recruitment and performance management.
- Build strong working relationships with clinicians, managers, commissioners, NHS partners and other stakeholders to support effective use of information.
- Horizon scan for new data sources, analytical tools, quantitative methods and best practice that could benefit the Trust.
- Represent the Data and Analytics directorate at internal and external meetings, working groups and forums

Applicants are encouraged to discuss any flexibility they may need during the recruitment process., The Deputy Head of Analytics will support the Head of Analytics in leading the Trustās analytics function, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely and accurate information, reporting and insight across Trust divisions. The postholder will act as a senior information specialist, providing expert advice on data definitions, analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex information to support operational, clinical and strategic decision-making.
The role will lead the development and governance of the Trustās information gateway, rationalising reporting and embedding robust processes for requirements gathering, report design, development, testing and deployment. The postholder will also support the implementation of innovative analytical approaches, including demand and capacity modelling, predictive analytics, scenario modelling and self-service analytics.
Main Duties

Support the Head of Analytics in leading and managing the Trustās analytics function.

Provide expert advice on data definitions, information standards, data quality, analysis and interpretation.

Lead the development and delivery of routine, ad hoc and real-time reporting for clinical, operational and corporate users.

Manage and strengthen the Trustās information gateway, ensuring clear processes for reporting requests, prioritisation, design, testing and deployment.

Analyse and interpret complex clinical, operational and management information from a range of systems and data sources.

Present complex analytical information in a clear, accessible and meaningful way for senior leaders, clinicians, managers and other stakeholders.

Support the use of advanced analytics, including demand and capacity modelling, benchmarking, scenario modelling and predictive analytics.

Promote the development and use of self-service reporting and analytical tools across the Trust.

Lead analytical projects that support service improvement, business planning, quality improvement and strategic decision-making.

Ensure analytics outputs are accurate, timely, consistent and compliant with information governance, data quality and national reporting standards.

Manage, supervise and develop analytical staff, including workload planning, training, appraisals, recruitment and performance management.

Build effective working relationships with clinical divisions, operational teams, Finance, PMO, Quality Improvement, Digital colleagues, commissioners and wider NHS partners.

Keep up to date with emerging analytical tools, data sources, quantitative methods and best practice, identifying opportunities to improve the Trustās analytics capability.

Represent the analytics function at internal and external meetings, working groups and forums.

Support budget management, business cases and cost improvement work by using data and analysis to identify opportunities for efficiency and improvement.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Software deployment?, Do you have a Masterās degree?, * Educated to Masterās level or equivalent specialist knowledge gained through postgraduate study or substantial relevant experience in analytics, health informatics, data science, healthcare, science or a related discipline.
- Evidence of continued professional development relevant to analytics, information, data, leadership or healthcare management.
Desirable criteria
- Leadership or management qualification., * Significant senior-level experience in a complex healthcare environment, preferably within the NHS or a comparable health setting
- Proven experience of leading analytics, insight generation, internal reporting or decision-support services for clinical, operational or corporate stakeholders.
- Experience of managing, developing and supervising analytical staff, including workload allocation, appraisal, recruitment, training and professional development.
- Experience of developing analytical products that support planning, demand and capacity, improvement programmes, benchmarking or future-focused decision making.
- Experience of developing or improving reporting governance, requirement gathering, report design, testing and deployment processes.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of budget management, financial planning or supporting cost improvement programmes using analytics.
- Experience of developing policies and procedures relating to analytics, information, reporting or data quality., * Strong technical experience using SQL, Microsoft BI tools and Power BI to develop reports, dashboards and analytical products.
- Experience writing DAX measures, calculations or bespoke functions and integrating multiple data sources in Power BI/Excel
- Ability to use statistical or analytical methods to generate insight, interpret complex information and provide clear recommendations.
- Ability to analyse, investigate and resolve complex analytical problems and information queries.
Desirable criteria
- Guidance Score Working knowledge of SPC charts, statistical process control, predictive analytics, modelling techniques or scenario modelling tools.
- Experience designing or working with data warehouse models, including star and snowflake schemas.
- Skill in designing data warehouse or information visualisation platforms., * Extensive knowledge of NHS information requirements, data definitions, data standards, statutory requirements and relevant NHS policy.
- Knowledge of information governance legislation, data quality policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of health information systems and ability to keep informed about emerging technology through horizon scanning and networking.
- Understanding of the importance of accuracy, completeness and quality of patient data.
Desirable criteria
- Good understanding of PbR, HRGs and medical terminology.
- Knowledge of Data Set Change Notices, Information Standard Notices or other national NHS data requirements., * Ability to present complex analytical information clearly to non-technical audiences, including senior managers, clinicians and operational teams.
- Ability to influence, negotiate and build effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to plan, organise and prioritise complex workloads, manage conflicting demands and adjust work plans as required.
- Able to inspire others and support a positive, open and no-blame team culture.
- Flexible, adaptable and able to remain calm under pressure.
- Experience representing an organisation or service at senior meetings, working groups or external NHS forums.
- Experience providing analytics training, education or coaching to staff or service users.
