NextEra Energy is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support the development, integration, reliability, and modernization of the AURA forecasting platform.

This role combines data engineering and production support, focusing on building scalable data pipelines, integrations, databases, APIs, and automated workflows that support load, wind, and solar forecasting. The position also provides operational support for cloud-based forecasting applications and services.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who can troubleshoot across data, applications, cloud infrastructure, and delivery systems while helping improve the overall resiliency of the forecasting environment.

Requirements

  • Strong experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise ETL/ELT and data integration pipelines.
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or SQL Server (PostgreSQL preferred).
  • Proficiency in Python for data processing, automation, and integrations.
  • Experience integrating data from APIs, databases, cloud storage, flat files, and SFTP.
  • Experience supporting production data pipelines, scheduled jobs, and troubleshooting workflows.
  • Experience with AWS.
  • Strong understanding of monitoring, logging, incident management, and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience with Git and modern software development practices.
  • Experience with AWS services such as S3, Lambda, ECS, EC2, CloudWatch, and Step Functions.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL/Aurora, Redshift, Databricks, Spark, or PySpark.
  • Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and cloud-hosted production applications.
  • Experience with secure data exchange, SFTP administration, and automated file-transfer processes.
  • Experience building data-quality, monitoring, and alerting frameworks.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy, utility operations, SCADA/telemetry data, weather data, or forecasting environments.
  • Experience supporting machine learning or forecasting data pipelines.
  • Experience working in Agile environments using Jira and Confluence.
