Job description
- Design, build and maintain secure, scalable AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Develop, manage and support Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
- Administer and optimise AWS-hosted database environments, including PostgreSQL, MySQL and Aurora.
- Provide L2 and L3 support for production systems, investigating and resolving complex incidents.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes for recurring platform issues.
- Create, maintain and enhance operational runbooks, support guides and technical documentation.
- Automate routine operational and administrative tasks to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Participate in on-call support and major incident management activities.
- Manage database deployments, schema changes and release activities.
- Monitor platform health, performance, availability and capacity across cloud environments.
- Collaborate with development teams to optimise database structures, queries and application performance.
- Support infrastructure upgrades, patching, maintenance and lifecycle management activities.
- Contribute to disaster recovery, resilience and business continuity planning.
- Ensure all systems comply with security, governance and regulatory requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across platform operations and support processes.
Requirements
We are seeking an experienced AWS Platform Developer to support, develop and enhance a critical cloud-hosted platform operating within a highly available production environment.
The successful candidate will possess a strong blend of AWS infrastructure expertise, Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code (IaC) development, database administration, and production support experience. This role requires ownership of L2 and L3 incident resolution, platform improvements, automation initiatives, and the creation of operational documentation and support runbooks.
Working closely with Engineering, DevOps, Service Management and Architecture teams, you will play a key role in ensuring platform stability, security, resilience and continuous improvement., * Strong experience designing, building and supporting AWS cloud environments, including EC2, VPC, IAM, Route53, S3, Lambda, CloudWatch, RDS, ECS and/or EKS.
- Proven Terraform experience, including Infrastructure as Code development, reusable modules, remote state management and CI/CD integration.
- Hands-on database administration experience across AWS RDS, PostgreSQL, MySQL and Aurora, including performance tuning, backup/recovery and change management.
- Experience providing L2/L3 support within production environments, including incident management, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Knowledge of ITIL-based support processes, SLA-driven environments and major incident management.
- Experience monitoring platform performance, capacity and availability, with a focus on reliability, resilience and continuous improvement.
- Strong automation and Scripting skills using Python, Bash and/or PowerShell.
- Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, operational runbooks and support procedures.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes (EKS), Docker, Ansible, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Flyway and AWS CDK.
- Experience with monitoring and service management tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, AppDynamics, CloudWatch, ServiceNow and Confluence.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication and problem-solving skills.
- 7+ years’ experience in AWS Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, DevOps or similar roles.
