Staff Data Platform Engineer

• Take technical ownership of our large-scale analytical data platform and shape its foundations for next-generation AI-driven products.
• Design, optimise and scale multi-tenant ClickHouse or equivalent OLAP platforms, addressing sharding, replication, materialised views, query performance and cost efficiency.
• Build automation, observability and intelligent capacity management to improve resilience, reduce operational overhead and support efficient scaling.
• Shape the architecture of a secure, multi-tenant Data-as-a-Service platform, enabling immutable data releases, discoverability and efficient access to complex datasets.
• Build data foundations for agentic AI systems, working with ML engineers to enable secure, scalable and reliable access to platform data.
• Establish robust tenant isolation, least-privilege access controls and credential management across the platform.
• Set architectural direction and engineering standards, mentor engineers and line-manage a small team while remaining hands-on.

• Cloud, Were hiring a Staff Data Platform Engineer for a hands-on technical leadership role based in London or Oxford, with two days per week on site. The salary is £100,000-£130,000, and sponsorship is not available. Youll join a small team and take ownership of a technically ambitious data platform, tackling infrastructure challenges at significant scale and influencing the architecture behind data-intensive and AI-powered products. Were looking for someone who leads through technical expertise, enjoys solving problems without obvious answers and wants to make a lasting impact on how our platform evolves.

• Were looking for deep expertise in ClickHouse or comparable OLAP technologies, ideally including experience operating multi-tenant analytical systems at significant scale.
• Were looking for a strong understanding of database internals, query optimisation, distributed architectures, sharding and replication. Experience contributing to open-source database projects or working at source-code level is highly advantageous.
• Were looking for a proven track record building scalable, observable and resilient data platforms, with a focus on automation and operational efficiency.
• Were looking for experience developing data platforms as products, including multi-tenancy, secure data distribution, immutable releases and large-scale data discovery.
• Were looking for an understanding of how to expose data securely to AI agents and other automated systems, including access controls, isolation and guardrails.
