Our nursing opportunities span a variety of services and clinical settings, providing care to people with a diverse range of mental health needs. Depending on the vacancy, you may work within inpatient services, community teams, crisis services, specialist services or other areas of mental health care.
You will have the opportunity to state your vacancy preference on your application and at interview. If you are appointable at interview but are not successful, you will be given the option to be added to our recruitment pipeline for any future vacancies that arise., As a Registered Mental Health Nurse, you will deliver safe, effective, person-centred care with service users, carers and the multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities may include:
- Acting as named nurse for allocated patients and remain accountable for their care
- Complete and review clinical and risk assessments, including crisis plans
- Plan, deliver, review and evaluate individualised care
- Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care and interventions
- Administer medication safely and monitor effectiveness, side effects and adherence
- Build therapeutic relationships while protecting privacy, dignity and confidentiality
- Monitor patients’ needs, wellbeing, safety and whereabouts
- Maintain clear, accurate and timely clinical records
- Coordinate care with multidisciplinary, community and partner services
- Support recovery, continuity, discharge planning and access to community resources
- Apply relevant law, the NMC Code, safeguarding standards and Trust policies
- Maintain a safe environment and follow safety, infection-control and incident procedures
- Supervise, support and teach junior staff, assistants and students
- Coordinate shifts or lead the ward or team when required
- Contribute to supervision, appraisal, audit, improvement, research and service development

Requirements
- Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with current NMC registration
- Recognised certificate, diploma or degree-level professional nursing qualification
- Commitment to maintaining NMC revalidation and continuing professional development requirements, * Practice assessor, mentor preparation, teaching or training qualification, or willingness to complete relevant training
- Additional post-registration study relevant to mental health nursing, * Relevant clinical placement or post-registration experience in mental health services
- Experience of assessing needs, planning, implementing and evaluating person-centred nursing care
- Experience of completing and reviewing risk assessments and risk-management plans
- Experience of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team and with patients, families and carers
- Ability to practise safely and accountably without direct supervision, within own competence, * Recent experience in the intended speciality, including acute inpatient, community, older adult or severe mental health services
- Experience of recovery-focused practice, inter-agency working or acting as a named nurse or lead professional
- Experience of supervising staff, supporting learners or coordinating a shift
- Experience of cognitive assessment, complex assessment, or working therapeutically with families and carers, * Knowledge of the nursing process, person-centred care planning and evidence-based practice
- Knowledge of risk assessment, risk management, safeguarding and clinical governance
- Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and relevant codes of practice
- Understanding of the NMC Code, professional accountability, confidentiality, privacy and dignity
- Knowledge of safe medicines administration and associated legal and organisational requirements
- Awareness of health and safety, infection prevention, incident reporting and relevant Trust policies and procedures, * Knowledge of the Care Programme Approach and recovery-focused service models
- Knowledge of quality improvement, audit, research and benchmarking approaches
- Knowledge of cognitive-enhancing treatments or other interventions relevant to the clinical speciality
- Knowledge of local statutory, voluntary and community resources, * Ability to undertake comprehensive clinical and risk assessments and formulate clear care plans
- Ability to deliver safe, effective and evidence-based nursing interventions and clinical procedures
- Ability to administer medicines safely, monitor effectiveness and side effects, and report concerns appropriately
- Ability to build therapeutic relationships and involve patients, carers and families appropriately in care
- Ability to maintain accurate, timely clinical records, including electronic records
- Ability to recognise deterioration, respond to changing risk and seek appropriate support
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with a clear command of English appropriate to the role
- Ability to communicate sensitively with patients, carers, colleagues and partner agencies
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams and contribute to continuity of care
- Ability to prioritise workload, manage a caseload or allocated group of patients, and work effectively under pressure
- Ability to support, supervise and share good practice with junior colleagues, healthcare assistants and students
- Ability, or willingness to develop the ability, to coordinate a shift or take responsibility for a ward or team in the absence of senior staff
- Competent in the use of information technology and electronic patient record systems, * Skills in cognitive testing, counselling, interviewing or other specialist assessment and intervention techniques
- Ability to contribute to service development, audit, research or quality-improvement activity
- Report-writing, presentation, appraisal or interviewing skills. Experience of providing clinical or managerial supervision
