Job description

JTEC Consulting is actively seeking a DevOps Engineer to join a growing team in the Herndon/Chantilly area. The DevOps Engineer will partner closely with software and data engineering teams to support and drive the adoption of DevOps culture, modern tooling, and automated delivery pipelines. Qualified candidate will have demonstrated experience to identify, prototype, engineer, and deploy emerging technologies into production baselines while operating a resilient suite of enterprise DevOps services. This role is operating in hybrid, multi-cloud, and multi-domain environments and requires experience to author infrastructure as code (IaC), establish automated deployment pipelines, and enforce rigorous security standards. A current security clearance with agency-specific polygraph is strictly required for consideration., * DevOps Strategy & Best Practices: Collaborate with the Chief Engineer and development teams to implement automation frameworks that accelerate delivery performance while minimizing operational risk

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Architect and maintain production-ready IaC using Terraform to achieve consistent, repeatable environment configurations and version-controlled infrastructure releases
  • Containerization & Orchestration: Package and containerize Java and Python applications optimized for deployment across Kubernetes clusters, ensuring parallel processing, fault tolerance, and high availability
  • Cloud Architecture & Cost Optimization: Leverage AWS architectural best practices to design autoscaling, resource scheduling, and workload management patterns that reduce compute costs across enterprise services
  • Zero-Downtime Deployments: Design, build, and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines supporting rolling updates, blue/green, or canary deployments with zero system downtime
  • DevSecOps Integration: Partner with the Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) to integrate security scanning (SAST/DAST, container image scanning, compliance checks) directly into the build and release pipelines
  • Configuration Management: Write and maintain runtime configuration scripts, custom environment definitions, and enterprise tooling configurations
  • Agile Collaboration: Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, document workflows and architectures thoroughly, and support application teams onboarding onto the enterprise DevOps platform

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Current TS/SCI with agency-specific polygraph required for consideration
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline (equivalent years of direct experience considered in lieu of a degree)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to support a cross-functional team

Technical Requirements:

  • Experience Level: 4-7+ years of dedicated experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Software Delivery Automation
  • Container Orchestration: Hands-on expertise building, deploying, and managing applications using Kubernetes and Helm Charts
  • Containerization: Demonstrated experience containerizing enterprise workloads using Docker and/or Podman, adhering to industry best practices for layered caching and image security
  • Cloud Platforms: Strong technical foundation in Amazon Web Services (AWS), specifically with services such as EKS, Lambda, EMR, ECR, VPC, IAM, and EC2
  • Infrastructure as Code: Proven, production-level experience designing and implementing infrastructure using Terraform
  • Systems & Scripting: Strong competency in scripting and debugging environments utilizing Python, Bash, or Java

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Image Automation: Experience combining Terraform and Packer to automate custom AMI builds, base image management, and configuration baselines in AWS
  • Database Pipeline Automation: Experience integrating database schema migration and ORM tools (e.g., Flyway, Liquibase) into automated deployment pipelines
  • CI/CD Pipeline Engineering: Advanced experience building end-to-end automation pipelines using Git, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar tooling integrated with automated testing frameworks
  • Secure Environments: Background supporting DevOps / DevSecOps within high-compliance, secure, or regulated government contracting environments
  • Agile Mindset: Demonstrated success working in fast-paced, collaborative Agile development teams focused on continuous delivery and innovation
