Job description

Within the first 6 to 12 months, this individual will be expected to:

  • Accelerate priority AI initiatives already identified across Vital Incite.
  • Deliver practical, production-ready AI solutions that improve analytics, operations, or client support.
  • Improve the reliability and visibility of existing data-refresh processes.
  • Automate high-value data-quality and validation controls.
  • Reduce manual data investigation and file-mapping work.
  • Create reusable data-quality, monitoring, and exception-management capabilities.
  • Strengthen the technical and governance foundation needed to scale AI responsibly.
  • Establish repeatable approaches for evaluating, deploying, monitoring, and improving AI-enabled solutions.
  • Demonstrate measurable progress in using AI to increase efficiency, strengthen insights, and support better healthcare decisions.

Why Join Vital Incite?

You will not be joining an organization that is deciding whether AI matters. You will be joining one that has already made AI a strategic priority and is ready to accelerate and scale its use.

This is an opportunity to influence the direction of AI within a growing healthcare analytics organization, recommend technologies, collaborate directly with healthcare and business experts, and build solutions that address meaningful, real-world challenges.

You will have access to complex healthcare data, visible executive support, clearly identified use cases, and the opportunity to take solutions from concept through production. Your work will help improve how healthcare data is managed, validated, interpreted, and translated into action.

If you are energized by the opportunity to combine strong data engineering with practical AI innovation, take ownership of meaningful solutions, and help expand the use of AI to improve healthcare decision-making, we would love to hear from you.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, software engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Advanced experience with SQL Server and T-SQL.
  • Strong experience designing, building, and supporting ETL processes and data pipelines.
  • Experience with stored procedures, performance tuning, query optimization, and large datasets.
  • Experience building data-validation, reconciliation, profiling, and quality-control frameworks.
  • Strong Python skills for data processing, automation, APIs, analytics, or machine learning.
  • Experience with data warehouses and business intelligence platforms, preferably SSAS, Power BI, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience designing monitoring, logging, exception-handling, and automated alert capabilities.
  • Experience developing APIs and integrating structured data, including CSV, Excel, JSON, and flat files.
  • Familiarity with GitHub, source control, testing, and modern software development practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical capabilities into meaningful business value.
  • Ability to work independently, influence technical direction, and collaborate effectively with technical and nontechnical teams.
  • A practical, outcomes-focused approach to AI innovation, with an emphasis on building scalable solutions that solve real problems.
  • The successful candidate does not need to be an AI research scientist. We are looking for someone who knows how to apply AI safely, practically, and effectively to business, analytics, and data workflows

Healthcare Experience

Experience in healthcare, employee benefits, insurance, or another highly regulated data environment is strongly preferred.

Particularly relevant experience includes:

  • Commercial healthcare claims and eligibility data
  • Medical and pharmacy claims
  • Member-level healthcare analytics
  • Employer-sponsored health plans
  • Healthcare cost and utilization analysis
  • Clinical risk stratification
  • HIPAA, PHI, and healthcare data privacy requirements

About the company

At Vital Incite, artificial intelligence is already playing an important role in how we improve healthcare data quality, automate complex processes, surface meaningful insights, and help employers make better healthcare decisions.

We are seeking a Senior Data & AI Engineer to accelerate and expand the use of AI across our analytics platform, internal operations, and client solutions. This individual will advance active AI initiatives while strengthening the trusted data foundation required to scale those capabilities responsibly.

This is more than a traditional data engineering position. It is an opportunity to help shape and execute the AI strategy of a growing healthcare analytics organization. You will identify high-value opportunities, evaluate and recommend technologies, develop solutions, and move practical AI capabilities into production.

Working alongside technology, analytics, clinical, strategy, and business leaders, you will help transform complex healthcare information into timely, actionable intelligence. Your work will influence how we identify risks and opportunities, improve data quality, automate workflows, generate insights, and support better healthcare decisions.

The Opportunity

Vital Incite has made a strategic commitment to expanding the responsible use of artificial intelligence throughout our operations, analytics, and client offerings. This role will be instrumental in accelerating that work and scaling solutions that deliver measurable value.

Vital Incite maintains a robust employer healthcare data environment that brings together medical claims, pharmacy claims, eligibility, biometric, wellness, and other healthcare-related information. This integrated data foundation supports advanced analytics and helps employers and advisors better understand healthcare costs, utilization, risks, and opportunities.
