Job description

We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to develop, integrate, and test software supporting Link 16 and tactical data link systems used in defense communications.

This role focuses on embedded C/C++, real-time software, tactical data link waveforms, and software-defined radios. You will work with systems engineering, hardware, and integration and test teams to develop and troubleshoot software for complex military communications systems.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded software using C/C++.

Develop and debug real-time, multithreaded embedded applications.

Test and troubleshoot Link 16 waveform functionality in an embedded software environment.

Work with tactical data link radios, terminals, and laboratory test equipment.

Support software architecture, requirements analysis, implementation, integration, and testing.

Analyze system behavior and resolve software and system-level issues.

Apply static analysis, unit testing, and established software development practices.

Collaborate with systems engineering, hardware, digital engineering, and integration and test teams.

Use development tools such as Git, Bitbucket, and Jira in an Agile environment.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or another STEM discipline with 5 years of related experience, a master’s degree with 3 years of related experience, or a Ph.D. with 1 year of related experience.

Proficiency in C/C++ and object-oriented programming.

Experience developing and debugging real-time embedded systems.

Experience integrating low-level firmware and software in complex, multithreaded applications.

Experience across the software lifecycle, from requirements through development, integration, and testing.

Familiarity with static analysis and unit testing.

Experience with Git, Bitbucket, Jira, and Agile software development.

Experience testing and troubleshooting Link 16 waveforms in an embedded environment.

Hands-on experience with tactical data link radios, terminals, or related laboratory equipment.

Familiarity with Link 16 or TACAN waveform standards.

Familiarity with Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) and Software Communications Architecture (SCA).

Experience with software-defined radios.

Active U.S. Government Secret clearance required before starting.

U.S. citizenship and ability to work on-site in San Diego, CA.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with avionics operating systems.

Experience with Xilinx platforms, including Zynq, UltraScale+, or Versal.

Familiarity with Yocto or PetaLinux.

Experience with communication interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, PCIe, and Ethernet.

Experience with TCP/IP and network configurations.

Experience implementing cryptographic functionality using software libraries.

Familiarity with Rust, Linux kernel drivers, assembly language, or bare-metal embedded drivers.

Familiarity with HAIPE, OTNK, IKE, or MIL-STD-6016.

Experience with Xilinx development tools such as Vitis and Vivado.

Familiarity with PowerPC architectures, IBM Rhapsody, DOORS, ClearCase, or Green Hills AdaMulti.

Active Top Secret clearance or current Special Access Program access.

Experience supporting Networked Information Solutions programs.

This opportunity is well suited for an embedded software engineer with hands-on Link 16 experience, tactical data link hardware knowledge, and a strong background in real-time C/C++ development.
