Job description

This Principal Engineering role for Object Storage will lead the design, development, and operation of the service-facing layer that handles customer object-storage requests at cloud scale. This engineer will build high-performance Java services and APIs that securely authenticate, authorize, route, validate, and process requests while coordinating with metadata, storage, networking, security, and control-plane systems. The role owns technical direction for scalable, highly available, and durable distributed components; drives design reviews and implementation quality; and ensures services meet demanding latency, throughput, reliability, and operational requirements. The engineer will also improve observability, automate safe deployment and rollback workflows, investigate complex production issues, and mentor other engineers while partnering across OCI teams to deliver a simple, secure, and dependable customer experience., The role will generally accept applications for at least three calendar days from the posting date or as long as the job remains posted. As part of Oracle’s onboarding process and consistent with applicable law, US-based employees are required to complete identity verification, which involves the collection and processing of their biometric information. Accommodations to this requirement may be granted following an individualized assessment.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 6+ years of professional software-engineering experience building, operating, and improving production distributed systems. Strong hands-on Java development experience, including concurrent programming, service and API design, data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, testing, debugging, performance tuning, code reviews, and technical documentation. Demonstrated experience designing scalable, elastic, high-throughput, fault-tolerant, and durable distributed services, including distributed state management, data-plane systems, replication, redundancy, failover, recovery, and large-scale code/data-path optimization. Sound engineering judgment regarding network partitions, consistency and availability trade-offs, retries, idempotency, throttling, rate limiting, and load shedding. Experience with performance, load, resilience, and correctness testing, including automated validation, failure scenarios, fault injection, or brownout testing. Experience defining and operating against SLOs; building telemetry, metrics, logging, dashboards, alerting, and automated validation; and leading production incident investigation and root-cause remediation. Experience designing secure multi-tenant cloud services using encryption, access controls, remediation practices, and compliance documentation. Ability to provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, communicate technical decisions clearly, and partner effectively with engineering, security, networking, and operations teams.

Preferred Experience with cloud infrastructure, Infrastructure as Code, automated deployment, safe patching/upgrades, and rollback automation. Experience with OCI, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud at production scale.
