Job description

Indigo is looking for a Full-Stack / Front-End Software Engineer to join an embedded product team supporting rapid prototyping and experimentation within the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering. You will build the warfighter-facing applications for three connected efforts: an edge application for mission planning, execution capture, and post-mission analysis; the user-facing layers of an integrated capability development product suite; and a Department-scale common operating picture for senior leaders. You will turn an operator’s problem into a usable interface quickly, iterate on it in front of real users, and own both the client experience and the application logic that connects it to back-end services and data. This is a hands-on, operator-facing role on a small team where compressed timelines and rapid iteration are the norm.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and build responsive, operator-usable front ends for mission planning, data capture, analysis, and portfolio-management views.
  • Develop full-stack features end to end, from interface through application logic to service and data calls, so each increment ships as working capability rather than a mock-up.
  • Build an edge application that functions in disconnected, intermittent, or degraded network conditions.
  • Put working builds in front of operators quickly, observe real use, and ship the next version on a short cycle.
  • Work directly from user discovery and the Product Lead’s increments rather than waiting on finished requirements.
  • Integrate front ends with back-end and platform services and with the data layer so the digital thread holds across the product suite.
  • Build in instrumentation to capture execution and performance data that feeds the team’s closed learning loop.
  • Write maintainable, testable code and follow sound engineering practices.
  • Pair with the back-end/platform engineer, data engineer, and UX/data science team members to keep the product coherent.
  • Support migration of relevant work to classified (SIPRNet) environments.
  • Document the product well enough for government developers to sustain it after the engagement ends.

Requirements

Clearance: Active Secret required at hire; TS/SCI eligibility preferred, Active Secret clearance at hire, with the ability to maintain it and obtain SIPRNet access.

  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • 5+ years of professional full-stack software development experience.
  • Depth in at least one modern front-end framework (such as React, Angular, or Vue) and the application logic behind it.
  • Working knowledge of APIs, authentication, and integration with back-end services and data stores.
  • Experience building for real users in iterative cycles and delivering usable products quickly.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and with on-site, operator-facing work.
  • Experience with software engineering practices including version control (Git), testing, and CI/CD.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to work closely with non-technical users., TS/SCI eligibility.
  • Experience building edge, offline-first, or disconnected-operation applications.
  • Experience delivering software in or with a defense or operational environment.
  • Familiarity with DoW AI/ML and data platforms.
  • Experience with cloud deployment and containerization (such as AWS, Azure, Docker, or Kubernetes).
  • Relevant professional certifications. Equivalent demonstrated experience is accepted in place of certification.
