Job description

Improve customer experience of Tesla vehicles by improving field reliability of the Media Control Unit (MCU). Own failure analysis, root cause, containment, and corrective action for MCU hardware across all vehicle lines while maintainingclose partnership with Infotainment HW, SW, FW, manufacturing, and silicon suppliers. This is a highly individual contributor role, primarily bench and lab work, with fleet and service data analysis to drive prioritization. You own the subsystem end to end, from first fail through validated countermeasures, and engage directly with component and silicon suppliers on complex failure modes.Investigate field failures on the MCU PCBA (SoC, DDR, power delivery, display ICs, USB, Ethernet, audio, and related ICs) across all vehicle platformsUse lab and board tools to isolate failures with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, TDR, thermal cameras, and vehicle/system logs (CAN, UART, kernel)Apply first principles and 5-Why thinking to reach root cause; engage silicon and component suppliers directly for failure analysis when requiredDrive containment and corrective actions through implementation and validation with your team and partner engineering orgsUse Python, SQL, and fleet data to identify reliability trends and prioritize investigations (~30% data, ~70% hands-on hardware)Collaborate across Infotainment HW, FW, SW, manufacturing, and supplier industrialization teams to root cause and mitigation failureTranslate root cause findings and reliability trends into clear risk assessments for engineering leadership and cross-functional partners and drive alignment on investigation priority, countermeasure urgency, and closure1-5 years of hands-on experience in failure analysis, electronics debug, PCBA validation, or hardware bring-up. New grads with strong hardware backgrounds, co-op, or internship experience are welcomeDegree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience; candidates without an EE degree must have demonstrated, substantial hands-on PCB debug experienceFoundational understanding of computer architecture (CPU/GPU pipelines, memory subsystems, storage interfaces, and peripheral buses) and comfort operating in a Linux/Shell environment to interact with embedded targets, extract system logs, and reason about MCU failure modes at a board and system levelHands-on experience debugging with low-speed communication protocols: I2C, SPI, UART required; high-speed interfaces (USB, PCIe, DP) a strong plusComfort reading IC datasheets and understanding SoC peripherals, PMICs, and memory devices to ramp quickly on new partsFamiliarity with PCB-level FA tools: oscilloscope and logic analyzer required; TDR and thermal camera experience a plus. Soldering/rework skills helpful but not requiredPython a strong plus for data scripting and board interaction; SQL helpful for fleet trend queriesStrong attention to detail, structured problem-solving, and clear written and verbal communicationHigh-volume consumer electronics, semiconductors, or automotive electronics background (helpful, not required)PCBA bring-up, NPI, or manufacturing exposure (helpful, not required)BenefitsAlong with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire:Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deductionFamily-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefitsDental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contributionCompany Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSAHealthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefitsCompany paid Basic Life, AD&DShort-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period)Employee Assistance ProgramSick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid HolidaysBack-up childcare and parenting support resourcesVoluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insuranceWeight Loss and Tobacco Cessation ProgramsTesla Babies programCommuter benefitsEmployee discounts and perks programExpected Compensation$91,600 - $195,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefitsPay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
