Job description
Velocity Technologies is hiring a hands-on systems administrator who can also lead an IT team. You will maintain an established IT environment, guide 2-3 technicians, handle technical escalations, and represent IT in recurring leadership meetings.
You will be employed by Velocity Technologies, a managed IT services provider based in Tempe. Expect to spend roughly half your time at an assigned client location and half at our office working directly with the Velocity Technologies team. The job combines systems administration, team leadership, and clear communication with business leaders.
What you will own
-
Maintain and troubleshoot Windows and Linux servers, business networks, identity services, and backups.
-
Keep routine maintenance, patching, monitoring, access changes, and recovery checks on schedule.
-
Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and make controlled changes with a clear rollback plan.
-
Set priorities for 2-3 technicians, delegate work, coach their development, and make sure issues reach resolution.
-
Keep documentation, asset records, runbooks, and ownership information accurate and useful.
-
Attend client leadership meetings and explain service health, risks, priorities, and planned work in business terms.
-
Coordinate vendors and work with Velocity engineers on projects, security, and complex escalations.
-
Preserve effective standards and improve recurring problems without creating unnecessary disruption.
Requirements
-
Substantial hands-on systems administration or infrastructure experience, typically five or more years, with examples of work you personally owned.
-
Practical Windows Server, Active Directory/DNS, Microsoft 365/Entra ID, and Linux administration skills.
-
Confidence troubleshooting switching, VLANs, routing, VPNs, and firewalls.
-
Experience with backup monitoring and actual restores, including verifying that a recovery succeeded.
-
Evidence of assigning work, coaching technicians, or leading a technical effort. A previous manager title is helpful but not required.
-
Calm troubleshooting, clear documentation, sound security judgment, and dependable follow-through.
-
The ability to explain a technical problem, its business impact, and the next decision to nontechnical leaders.
-
Availability for on-site work at both local workplaces (both locatations are 5 minutes apart and are both located in Tempe).
MSP, manufacturing, multi-site, or co-managed IT experience is useful. Familiarity with Veeam, Intune, SyncroMSP, Hudu, and common business firewall platforms is helpful; equivalent experience counts. Certifications can support your experience but are not a substitute for practical ability.
Benefits & conditions
-
$100,000 annual base salary.
-
Flexible PTO with responsible scheduling and coverage.
-
Direct mentoring and an approximately six-month operational client handoff.
-
Employer-sponsored insurance and retirement benefits are not offered.
-
Full-time, on-site in Tempe and metro Phoenix as needed.
