Applications Engineer

Overview Insight Global is hiring a team of Application Engineers to support a leading power systems manufacturer in Raleigh, NC. We have multiple openings across the team and are open to candidates ranging from early-career engineers to more experienced application and proposal engineers. This is a customer-facing role supporting utility, generation, renewable energy, and industrial power projects across North America. Engineers on this team work closely with customers, consulting engineers, EPC firms, utilities, and internal engineering teams to develop technical solutions for medium-voltage power distribution systems, switchgear, breakers, protection systems, and related infrastructure. What You’ll Do * Serve as a technical resource for medium-voltage power distribution equipment and systems up to 38kV. * Review customer specifications, one-line diagrams, protection schemes, and project requirements to develop technical solutions and proposals. * Support utilities, EPCs, renewable developers, power producers, and industrial customers throughout the project lifecycle. * Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, product management, and sales teams to ensure successful project execution. * Lead technical discussions, design reviews, and customer-facing presentations. * Evaluate system requirements and recommend solutions that improve reliability, safety, performance, and lifecycle value. * Support proposal development, cost estimates, technical documentation, and product selection activities. * Assist with troubleshooting and resolving technical application challenges throughout project execution. * Ensure designs and recommendations align with relevant industry standards and customer requirements.

Junior to Mid - Level Application Engineer * 1-5 years of experience * Proven experience supporting medium-voltage power systems, switchgear, protection, or utility projects * Comfortable leading technical discussions and customer interactions Senior Application Engineer * 5+ years of experience * Deep knowledge of utility, generation, renewable, or industrial power systems * Experience driving technical strategy, mentoring junior engineers, and serving as a trusted advisor to customers, * Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

• 2+ years of experience in one or more of the following:
• Applications Engineering
• Proposal Engineering
• Protection & Control Engineering
• Utility Engineering
• Power Systems Engineering
• Project Engineering
• Electrical Design Engineering
• Understanding of medium-voltage power distribution systems.
• Experience interpreting electrical one-line diagrams and project specifications.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with customers and stakeholders.
• Experience with medium-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, substations, transformers, or protection and control systems.
• Familiarity with utility, power generation, renewable energy, or industrial power projects.
• Knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, NEC, and other industry standards.
• Experience supporting customer proposals, quotations, or technical sales activities.
• Understanding of SCADA, relay protection, automation, or grid modernization initiatives.
• Previous customer-facing engineering or consulting experience.
