Job description

Do you enjoy figuring out why a deployment failed, improving the way software moves from development to production, and making infrastructure more reliable? We’re looking for a DevOps Engineer in Long Beach, CA, to help maintain the systems, tools, and automated processes that support application development and delivery.

You’ll work closely with software engineers, QA teams, and IT professionals to manage cloud infrastructure, improve deployment workflows, monitor system performance, and resolve issues that affect application availability. The role combines hands-on infrastructure work with scripting, automation, troubleshooting, and ongoing improvements to the development and production environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, configure, and maintain infrastructure used for application development, testing, staging, and production environments.
  • Manage cloud-based resources on platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud, depending on the organization’s technology environment.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines that automate code integration, testing, deployment, and release activities.
  • Work with development teams to identify deployment bottlenecks, reduce manual steps, and make software releases more consistent.
  • Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Ansible to provision and manage infrastructure in a repeatable manner.
  • Configure and maintain containerized applications using Docker and, where applicable, orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
  • Monitor application availability, infrastructure utilization, response times, and system health to identify performance issues before they cause major disruptions.
  • Investigate deployment failures, configuration errors, service interruptions, and infrastructure-related incidents, then implement appropriate fixes.
  • Develop scripts and automation using tools or languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell to simplify routine operational tasks.
  • Manage environment configurations, secrets, access permissions, and deployment variables across development and production systems.
  • Support application releases by coordinating with developers, reviewing deployment readiness, and helping resolve issues that arise during or after deployment.
  • Maintain logging, monitoring, and alerting systems so teams can identify errors, investigate unusual activity, and respond to incidents effectively.
  • Work with engineering teams to improve application scalability, resource allocation, fault tolerance, and recovery procedures.
  • Assist with network configuration, DNS, load balancing, firewalls, and connectivity troubleshooting where these affect application delivery.
  • Apply security practices to infrastructure and deployment workflows, including least-privilege access, credential management, patching, and configuration reviews.
  • Identify outdated software, vulnerable dependencies, misconfigured services, and other infrastructure risks, and coordinate remediation with the appropriate teams.
  • Support backup procedures, disaster recovery planning, and restoration testing to help maintain service continuity.
  • Track infrastructure usage and cloud spending, identify underutilized resources, and recommend changes that improve cost efficiency without compromising reliability.
  • Maintain technical documentation covering infrastructure architecture, deployment procedures, configuration standards, troubleshooting steps, and recovery processes.
  • Participate in incident reviews and help turn recurring production issues into actionable improvements.
  • Collaborate with developers, QA engineers, security personnel, and IT teams to address infrastructure requirements throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Evaluate DevOps tools and practices and recommend changes when they offer a clear improvement in reliability, delivery speed, security, or maintainability., If you have experience with cloud infrastructure, deployment automation, and troubleshooting production systems, we encourage you to apply for the DevOps Engineer position in Long Beach, CA. Tell us about the tools you’ve worked with, the environments you’ve supported, and the improvements you’ve made to infrastructure or software delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Professional experience in DevOps, cloud infrastructure, systems engineering, site reliability engineering, or a closely related technical role.
  • Working knowledge of at least one major cloud platform, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience building, maintaining, or troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, or Azure DevOps.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based systems, command-line tools, system services, and basic server administration.
  • Experience with scripting or automation using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or a comparable language.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, TCP/IP, load balancing, and firewall rules.
  • Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git, and collaborative software development workflows.
  • Experience using monitoring, logging, and alerting tools to investigate infrastructure or application issues.
  • Understanding of infrastructure security, access control, patch management, and secure configuration practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues systematically and document the steps taken to resolve them.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with software development, QA, security, and IT teams.
  • Experience managing containerized applications with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi, or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or the Elastic Stack.
  • Knowledge of configuration management, automated environment provisioning, and deployment rollback strategies.
  • Experience supporting production systems that require high availability, scalability, and dependable recovery procedures.
  • Familiarity with cloud identity and access management, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, and infrastructure security reviews.
  • Experience with serverless services, managed databases, message queues, or other cloud-native technologies.
  • Understanding of site reliability engineering practices, including service-level indicators, service-level objectives, and incident response.
  • Exposure to cloud cost monitoring, resource optimization, and capacity planning.
  • Relevant cloud or DevOps certifications, such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Microsoft Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, or comparable credentials.

Benefits & conditions

  • Long Beach, CA, Full-time, On-site
  • Monday-Friday, standard business hours; occasional flexibility may be needed during deployments or production incidents.
