Job description

Our engineering teams build the software that powers clinical care delivery at Oak Street Health - patient scheduling, care coordination, clinical records, and the integrations that connect our systems to health networks across the country. As a Sr Software Engineer, you’ll own complex workstreams, drive technical decisions within your domain, and mentor the engineers around you. The work needs to be reliable, maintainable, and built to evolve - and in a healthcare environment, the quality of the design has direct clinical consequences.

What you’ll do

  • Design robust system prompts using LLM frameworks
  • Partner with product teams and business stakeholders to understand and automate workflows
  • Design and implement robust file-ingestion pipelines using Databricks
  • Own a domain or service area end-to-end, including its data model and integration contracts
  • Lead code reviews, set technical standards, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers
  • Hold the team accountable for test coverage, observability, and the production health of the services you own

Requirements

  • 5+ years building distributed backend systems in production
  • Proficiency building system prompts and utilizing AI frameworks
  • Hands-on experience with MongoDB or comparable document stores
  • Track record of leading technical work across a team - not just executing it
  • Experience with cloud-native deployment (Azure, AWS, or GCP)

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience building extract, transform, load (ETL/ELT) workflows using Databricks
  • Deep familiarity with domain-driven design and bounded context modeling
  • Experience with healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7) or EMR integrations
  • Background in high-throughput, low-latency service design at scale
  • Experience with event sourcing, CQRS, or other advanced event-driven patterns, * Bachelor’s degree preferred/specialized training/relevant professional qualification.

Benefits & conditions

Oak Street Health delivers value-based primary care to Medicare-eligible adults through a network of clinics across the U.S. Our engineering teams build the platforms that make that care possible - from the clinical workflows providers use every day to the data systems that power population health. We are part of CVS Health.
