Senior Optical Network Engineer

Client is seeking a Senior Optical Network Engineer with strong hands-on experience in optical networking, DWDM, fiber-optic transport, and telecommunications engineering. The role involves designing, implementing, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting optical transport networks supporting critical utility infrastructure. This is a hands-on Optical/DWDM Telecom Engineering and Field Engineering position, requiring both network design expertise and practical field experience at substations and remote sites.

• Strong experience in optical networking, DWDM, fiber optics, and optical transport engineering.
• Hands-on experience designing, installing, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting optical networks.
• Experience with outside-plant fiber, SONET/TDM, Ethernet/MPLS, and microwave/RF telecommunications.
• Familiarity with Cisco ONS 15454, CTP, and EPNM.
• Knowledge of utility telecommunications, substations, and critical infrastructure environments.
• Experience with optical network testing, including OTDR, BERT, and optical power measurements.
• Familiarity with SCADA, EMS, RTU, and OT environments.
• Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle required.
• Ability to travel to field sites and participate in emergency and on-call activities.
• Ability to work three days onsite and two days remotely.

Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a Senior Optical/DWDM Telecom Engineer who has designed optical transport networks, developed engineering documentation, physically connected fiber and equipment onsite, performed optical testing, commissioned systems, and resolved field-level network issues. Important: Prioritize candidates with strong DWDM, fiber-optic engineering, optical network design, and hands-on field implementation experience. Candidates whose backgrounds focus primarily on Cisco/IP routing and switching, with little or no practical optical/DWDM experience, are not a good fit.
