Technical Developer

BRG has an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Sr. Technical Developer in sunny Santa Cruz, California. This Sr. TD will work directly with Design, Product Management and Manufacturers to create a versatile line of Men’s and Women’s cycling apparel for Giro, one of the world’s most innovative cycling brands. Key responsibilities include capturing, communicating and coordinating all technical information with regard to product creation from concept, through development, to buy-ready for all products. Must be highly collaborative, team oriented and organized. Must be able to multi-task and work cross-functionally with other teams in a fast paced but fun and friendly environment. Must be into working and playing with people who are genuinely passionate about bikes and outdoor adventure., Work with Design to create tech packs from design sketch specifications for all applicable product.

• Monitor fit and size specs on product appropriate for the end-use performance and style of the garment.
• Maintain the Bill of Materials for applicable product to include all fabric, trim, branding, hang tags and/or packaging.
• Review all prototypes for adherence to BOM details through constant, direct communication with design team, operations and vendors.
• Establish and manage raw material details, updates, corrections and other technical information to be used by manufacturers in calculating cost for producing product.
• Establish and maintain strong working relationships with Product Marketing, Design, Quality, Costing, and Sourcing to manage designated projects and to ensure on time buy ready performance.
• Prototype and implement new and innovative design, components, processes, materials and concepts into production ready and marketable finished product.
• Engineer workable prototypes that address desired function, aesthetic, market appeal and manufacturability.
• Conduct collaborative and constructive fit sessions with team to check prototypes for quality make and consistent fit.
• Ensure that new projects are engineered in accordance with cost targets (pre-costing). Ensure that initial cost quotes are available for reference.
• Work within the Product Development PLM system.
• Provide input into sourcing decisions.
• Help manage and maintain fabric/trim library as well as fit archive.
• Support Design with conceptual sketches, technical sketches and Visual Line Plan creation and updates.
• Support Design with color story and trend boards.
• Support Design with internal meeting and sales meeting presentations.

Degree in clothing technology and/or manufacturing or comparable degree from Textile School

• 6 years minimum related work experience in garment/textile industry
• Preferred candidate has experience developing performance apparel products.
• Experience in Asian development and production is preferred
• Will have an understanding of pattern making, grading, textiles, construction techniques and other elements that comprise apparel construction.
• IT-skills (e-mail, MS Office programs, PDM), strong knowledge of Adobe Illustrator.
