Job description

Corning is seeking a Senior Staff Data Architect Engineer to lead enterprise data architecture supporting R&D and other large business domains. This role will define scalable data models, architecture standards, and data-product patterns that allow teams to bring complex data together in consistent, reliable, and reusable ways., * * Lead the design and evolution of enterprise data architecture, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models, canonical models, shared dimensions, and reusable data products

  • Define scalable data-ingestion, transformation, storage, and serving patterns across modern cloud or lakehouse platforms
  • Establish architecture standards for data products, pipelines, documentation, versioning, lineage, lifecycle management, and CI/CD-enabled reference implementations
  • Partner with data engineers, product owners, analysts, governance teams, security teams, and business stakeholders to translate complex needs into practical data designs
  • Embed data quality, access controls, PII handling, compliance, metadata, and governance requirements into models and pipelines
  • Provide technical leadership, architecture guidance, and mentorship to data engineers and analysts
  • Evaluate emerging architecture approaches, including lakehouse, data mesh, semantic-layer, streaming, and event-driven patterns
  • Communicate architecture decisions, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders

Requirements

The ideal candidate brings deep architecture and data-engineering experience, particularly across large data platforms, data ingestion, modeling, transformation, governance, and enterprise-scale implementation. Direct R&D experience is helpful but not required; strong architecture experience in manufacturing, finance, pharmaceuticals, or another complex data domain is equally relevant., * * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

  • Seven or more years of relevant data and technical experience, including at least four years in a Data Architect, Senior Data Engineer, or comparable role focused on data design and architecture
  • Demonstrated experience designing enterprise data models for analytics and operational reporting, including dimensional, normalized, data-vault, or comparable modeling approaches
  • Strong hands-on experience designing or guiding end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines on cloud or modern data platforms
  • Experience with Databricks or another large-scale cloud or lakehouse data platform
  • Experience with dbt or a comparable data-transformation framework
  • Strong SQL skills and proficiency in Python, Scala, or another data-engineering language
  • Experience with Git, DevOps tooling, and CI/CD practices
  • Ability to work in the United States without current or future immigration sponsorship and meet export-control eligibility requirements

Experiences/Education - Desired

    • Experience with Delta Lake, medallion architecture, data-product design, data lineage, metadata, or cataloging tools
  • Experience with streaming or event-driven data architecture using Kafka, Kinesis, or comparable technologies
  • Familiarity with data mesh, domain-oriented architecture, data fabric, semantic layers, or related modern architecture patterns
  • Experience developing architecture in a large manufacturing, R&D, pharmaceutical, financial, or similarly complex data environment
  • Experience working with distributed or international technical teams
  • Ability to work from Sullivan Park is preferred; highly qualified candidates may be considered for a remote arrangement
