Job description
A leading global alternative investment manager headquartered in New York City is seeking a Security Master Business Analyst (Consultant) to join its Data Services team as a key contributor to a firm-wide security master implementation project.
This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, detail-driven data environment. You’ll sit at the intersection of business and technology - gathering requirements, running deep data analysis, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of securities reference data through rigorous testing and validation.
Responsibilities:
Serve as a key business analyst on the firm’s security master implementation, gathering and documenting business and functional requirements from stakeholders across Data Services, Technology, and Operations
Perform deep, hands-on data analysis using SQL and Excel to profile, reconcile, and validate securities reference data across source systems and the target security master platform
Define and execute test plans, test cases, and validation scripts to confirm data accuracy, completeness, and integrity throughout implementation phases (unit, integration, UAT)
Document current- and future-state data flows, mapping specifications, and business rules governing security master workflows (security setup, data enrichment, exception management, golden-source determination)
Identify data quality issues and discrepancies, perform root-cause analysis, and partner with technology teams to design and validate remediation
Support data migration and cutover activities, including reconciliation between legacy and new systems
Collaborate with vendors, data providers, and internal technology teams to resolve data mapping and integration issues
Prepare clear, concise documentation and status reporting for project stakeholders and senior management
Contribute to the development of ongoing data governance and quality control standards for securities reference data
Requirements
5+ years of experience as a business analyst, data analyst, or similar role within a financial services organization (asset management, private equity, hedge fund, or investment bank preferred)
Direct experience with security master data and related workflows - security setup, reference data maintenance, corporate actions, pricing, or classification data
Strong hands-on SQL skills for querying, profiling, and reconciling large data sets
Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and large-scale data comparison and manipulation
Demonstrated experience with data testing, validation, and quality assurance in the context of a system implementation or data migration
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical data issues into business terms and vice versa
Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, information systems, or a related field
Nice to have:
Experience with security master platforms (e.g., GoldenSource, Bloomberg AIM/DL, Eagle STAR/PACE, SimCorp, Charles River, Markit EDM, or similar)
Familiarity with financial instrument types across asset classes (equities, fixed income, derivatives, private/illiquid assets)
Experience with data governance, lineage, or data quality tooling
Exposure to Agile project delivery methodologies (JIRA, Confluence, or similar)
Prior experience supporting a data services or reference data implementation project from requirements through go-live
