Job description

Leidos is seeking an Test Engineer (Level 2) to join a dynamic team supporting the SkyLine-X KN-2 program. This position supports the verification, validation, and qualification of advanced systems, focusing on testing methodologies to evaluate Air Traffic Control (ATC) modernization initiatives. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, the selected candidate will help design, implement, and maintain test frameworks and procedures that support operational readiness in alignment with systems assurance, safety, and performance standards. The team leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to enhance test, and familiarity with these approaches is a plus.

Responsibilities:

Working both as a member of a team and independently, the successful candidate will:

  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of test frameworks for the verification and validation (V&V) of complex systems.

  • Develop system-level and component-level test procedures, test cases, and data sets based on formal requirements and system specifications, with guidance as needed.

  • Write and execute test cases, scenarios and scripts using tools and frameworks such as Squish, Selenium, PyTest, or Robot Framework.

  • Troubleshoot and debug tests to identify root causes of failures and support defect resolution in coordination with software and systems engineering teams.

  • Execute integration testing of distributed systems using containerized or virtualized environments (e.g., Docker, Podman), and help manage VMs and dev containers.

  • Apply AI/ML-based tools and techniques to enhance test, coverage, and efficiency where applicable.

  • Maintain test artifacts and documentation such as the Verification Requirements Test Matrix (VRTM) and traceability matrices.

  • Interface with SkyLine-X KN-2 software and system engineering teams, as well as lab management, in support of installation and integration efforts.

  • Support test readiness reviews, system qualification events, and formal testing with the customer.

  • Actively participate in daily stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Release Planning, and other Agile team activities.

  • Be able to support travel.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a BS degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience) and 2 - 4 years of prior relevant experience.

  • The engineer should have working knowledge of test automation, including the use of automated test frameworks and scripts (e.g., Squish, Selenium, PyTest, Robot Framework) to run repeatable tests. A general familiarity with integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support regression coverage is helpful.

  • The team uses Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques to help enhance test automation, such as assisting with test case generation or flagging anomalies in results. Some familiarity with these AI-assisted testing approaches and Claude Code is a plus, though not required.

  • Experience in testing, test script development, and system-level verification of complex systems.

  • Proficiency with scripting languages.

  • Familiarity with Linux or Unix-based environments, containerization (Docker, Podman), and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Excellent written/verbal skills with the ability to interpret and author well-formed documents.

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with AI/ML-based tools and techniques to enhance test.

  • Familiarity with requirement decomposition to develop test approaches and procedures.

  • Familiarity with the Atlassian Tool Suite and JIRA.

  • Familiarity with NextGen Air Traffic Control modernization programs.

  • Exposure to test and evaluation (T&E) standards, including Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRM) and Test Readiness Review (TRR) documentation.
