Job description

Robert Half is hiring! We are looking for an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineer to join a growing team. This position focuses on building intelligent, production-ready applications that combine modern software engineering with advanced agent-based AI capabilities. The ideal candidate will lead solutions from early design through deployment, creating scalable services, responsive user experiences, and reliable AI-driven workflows that support business objectives.

Responsibilities:

Lead the full product development lifecycle for AI-powered applications, from solution design and architecture through testing, deployment, and ongoing improvement.

Create and support backend platforms using Python or Node.js, delivering scalable services and well-structured APIs for web and AI-based systems.

Build and refine React-based user interfaces that connect smoothly with backend services and provide a consistent application experience.

Design distributed architectures, including microservices and agent orchestration patterns, to support complex reasoning, tool usage, memory, and multi-step execution.

Integrate large language models with business systems, external tools, databases, and enterprise applications to enable practical automation and decision support.

Improve performance across applications by tuning services, optimizing database interactions, and managing efficient use of cloud infrastructure.

Establish secure engineering practices by implementing authentication, access controls, and reliable approaches to privacy, testing, and system protection.

Oversee containerized deployments and continuous delivery workflows using Docker and related DevOps tooling, while resolving issues in production cloud environments.

Define evaluation, monitoring, and tracing methods that measure AI agent quality, cost, latency, safety, and overall operational reliability.

Partner with cross-functional stakeholders and provide technical guidance to engineers contributing to agentic AI initiatives and platform development.

Requirements

7+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong background in building production-grade applications. Strong hands-on expertise in Python or Node.js, including experience developing scalable backend services and APIs. Experience creating front-end applications with React and connecting them to backend or AI-enabled platforms. Solid understanding of RESTful API design, asynchronous programming, and modern distributed system architecture. Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or DynamoDB. Practical knowledge of large language models, generative AI concepts, agentic workflows, prompt design, and tool-integrated AI systems. Familiarity with frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, or similar technologies used for agent development. Strong analytical thinking, clear communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while producing maintainable, well-documented code., All applicants applying for U.S. job openings must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
