Job description

GRVTY is seeking Platform Engineers for multiple openings focused on building, integrating, and improving secure cloud and Big Data platforms. You will work with Linux, AWS infrastructure, Kubernetes, and automation technologies to create resilient, manageable environments and integrate open-source software. The balance of programming, infrastructure, and platform operations depends on the specific opening.

What You’ll be Owning

Depending on your assignment, you will:

  • Design, implement, and enhance cloud platform capabilities from prototype through operational deployment.
  • Build and manage virtual and container infrastructure using infrastructure as code and automation.
  • Develop, deploy, troubleshoot, and administer Kubernetes environments and supporting platform components.
  • Integrate open-source technologies and custom components to improve resilience, performance, and maintainability.
  • Automate operating-system provisioning, configuration, and deployment workflows.
  • Collaborate with architects and engineering teams to solve complex platform integration and operating-system issues.
  • Use Go or Python to build platform automation and supporting tools, depending on the specific opening.
  • Strengthen platform monitoring, security, and operational documentation.

These are hybrid openings based from our office in Columbia, MD or San Antonio, TX. The current openings generally anticipate about one or two office days per week, depending on the specific opening. Some Columbia assignments include periodic travel to San Antonio. Customer needs may change onsite frequency and travel requirements.

Requirements

  • An active U.S. Government Secret clearance or higher and U.S. citizenship for GRVTY consideration.
  • Relevant platform engineering, infrastructure integration, or cloud/software engineering experience and education appropriate to the opening:

  • General openings: at least 5 years of relevant experience with a related bachelor’s degree; 3 years with a related master’s degree; or 9 years with a high-school diploma or equivalent.
  • Openings requiring more extensive experience: at least 9 years with a related bachelor’s degree; 7 years with a related master’s degree; or 13 years with a high-school diploma or equivalent.

Strong Linux fundamentals, including hosts, networking, system security, troubleshooting, and shell/Bash scripting.

Hands-on AWS infrastructure deployment and/or administration, according to the specific opening.

Experience deploying or managing Kubernetes and associated workloads.

Ability to write platform code or automation in Go or Python, depending on the specific opening.

Strong systems integration skills, a practical understanding of infrastructure as code, and the ability to work independently toward architectural goals.

Ability to meet office attendance and periodic travel requirements.

An applicable DoD 8140/8570 certification may be required, depending on the specific opening and customer direction.

Candidates are considered for openings that match their skills; experience in every specialty below is not required.

  • Go-focused platform engineering: Depending on the specific opening, use Go to integrate services, automate AWS infrastructure, and develop platform capabilities.
  • Kubernetes administration and GitOps: Depending on the specific opening, work with cluster administration, Docker or Podman, Helm, Kustomize, Flux, and deployment troubleshooting.
  • Infrastructure, provisioning, and storage: Depending on the specific opening, use Ansible, Puppet, Kickstart, or infrastructure-as-code tools; support Ceph, Rook, Longhorn, or other storage layers.
  • Cloud integration and automation: Depending on the specific opening, design AWS-hosted capabilities, improve existing codebases, and develop Python or Go tooling.

What Would be Nice to Have

  • Experience with AWS architecture and hybrid/cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with OS and container hardening, STIGs, CIS benchmarks, or equivalent security controls.
  • Experience with GitLab CI, Jenkins, Travis CI, or comparable CI/CD platforms.
  • Familiarity with Big Data Platform environments, Hadoop, Spark, or distributed storage systems.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Proxmox, or oVirt.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, GitHub, GitLab, and Agile delivery practices.
