Job description

Our client, a major communication services provider, is seeking a Senior Storage and Infrastructure Engineer to support the reliability, availability, security, and scalability of enterprise storage, data protection, virtualization, and server infrastructure. This role will design, build, and operate block, file/NFS, and S3/object storage solutions, enterprise backup and cyber-recovery platforms, and VMware Cloud Foundation environments supporting mission-critical applications. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on experience with enterprise storage and data protection technologies and will partner with network, security, and operations teams to deliver highly available, isolated, and recoverable infrastructure. The role will also focus on automation, disaster recovery, capacity planning, and continuous improvement of infrastructure operations. Core Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain highly available, scalable, and secure block, file/NFS, and object storage infrastructure using technologies such as Dell PowerMax, Dell PowerScale/Isilon, Pure Storage, and MinIO
  • Design, deploy, and operate VMware Cloud Foundation, including vSphere, vSAN, NSX, SDDC Manager, and Aria, with responsibility for lifecycle management, upgrades, and capacity
  • Deploy and maintain Dell and Cisco server infrastructure, including firmware management, lifecycle activities, and hardware refreshes
  • Plan and execute storage, backup, and virtualization upgrades and migrations while minimizing service disruption
  • Monitor infrastructure health, performance, and capacity using tools such as Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, VictoriaMetrics, and Splunk
  • Engineer and support enterprise data protection platforms including Rubrik, Cohesity, and Veritas NetBackup, covering policy design, replication, immutability, and recovery workflows
  • Manage replication and snapshot technologies, including SRDF and SnapVX, to support defined RPO and RTO objectives
  • Automate provisioning, configuration, and infrastructure lifecycle activities using Ansible/AWX/AAP, Python, Bash, NetBox, and MAAS
  • Conduct performance testing, capacity planning, and forecasting for storage and compute environments
  • Develop, test, and maintain disaster recovery and cyber-recovery plans while regularly validating recoverability
  • Support incident, problem, and change management processes and participate in on-call support as required
  • Maintain the security and isolation of data resilience and recovery environments, including controlled-ingress and data-diode workflows
  • Develop and maintain runbooks, architectural documentation, and technical standards
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across infrastructure initiatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related discipline, and/or equivalent professional experience
  • 5+ years supporting enterprise storage, systems, or site reliability environments, including block, file, and object storage platforms
  • 5+ years designing and operating VMware virtualization environments, including VCF and vSphere on Dell and Cisco server infrastructure
  • Strong background with enterprise storage technologies, including Dell PowerMax, Dell PowerScale/Isilon, and Pure Storage
  • Demonstrated expertise with enterprise data protection platforms such as Rubrik, Cohesity, and Veritas NetBackup
  • Hands-on knowledge of NFS and S3/object storage solutions, including platforms such as MinIO or Pure FlashBlade
  • Proven proficiency in infrastructure automation, leveraging technologies such as Ansible/AWX/AAP or Terraform
  • Extensive knowledge of monitoring, logging, and alerting technologies, including Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk
  • Advanced scripting and development skills using Python and/or Bash
  • Working knowledge of SAN fabrics, IP networking, Kubernetes, Git, Linux and Windows administration, and data center operations

Preferred Skills/Experience (Nice-to-Haves)

  • Certifications in virtualization, storage, data protection, Kubernetes, or networking, including VCP/VCAP, Dell, Pure Storage, Rubrik, Cohesity, or NetBackup
  • Working in a DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) environment
  • Supporting Dell and Cisco rack-mount server platforms
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Supporting large-scale telecommunications or similarly complex technology environments
  • Experience with isolated, air-gapped, or cyber-recovery vault environments and data-diode architectures
  • Experience with MAAS, NetBox, Palo Alto, or Cisco network integrations

Key Competencies

  • Enterprise Storage Architecture: Strong understanding of block, file/NFS, and object storage architectures in large-scale environments
  • Data Protection & Recovery: Expertise in enterprise backup, replication, immutability, disaster recovery, and cyber-recovery practices
  • Virtualization: Advanced knowledge of VMware Cloud Foundation and associated VMware infrastructure technologies
  • Monitoring & Performance Management: Skilled in proactively monitoring platform health, capacity, availability, and performance
  • Infrastructure Security & Resilience: Strong understanding of secure, isolated, and highly recoverable infrastructure environments
  • Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Ability to diagnose complex storage, virtualization, server, and data protection issues and drive them through resolution
