Job description
The Senior Full Stack Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and modernizing enterprise applications across the Executive Office of Education s (EOE) technology portfolio. The role focuses on transitioning complex legacy systems built in Java/Spring and .NET/ASP.NET into modern, scalable, cloud-native architectures using Node.js, Angular/React, and TypeScript within EOE s AWS-based environment.
This position works closely with Business Analysts, Product Owners, architects, and development teams to analyze existing applications, translate business requirements into technical solutions, and implement modern web applications that improve maintainability, performance, reliability, and security. A key component of the role involves conducting in-depth legacy system analysis ( application archaeology ) to understand existing business logic, integrations, and dependencies, and identify opportunities for refactoring or re-platforming that minimize disruption to critical business operations.
The Senior Full Stack Software Engineer designs and develops scalable RESTful APIs, backend services, and component-based user interfaces using modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks and service-oriented architectural patterns. The role requires experience integrating applications with relational and analytical data platforms, including PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, and Snowflake, as well as familiarity with AWS services such as Lambda, ECS, RDS, S3, and API Gateway. The position also works closely with DevOps and platform teams to support CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, cloud infrastructure integration, and secure development practices.
As a senior technical contributor, this position plays an important role in architectural design discussions, code reviews, technical decision-making, and the adoption of engineering best practices. The role helps establish and reinforce standards for application architecture, automated testing, documentation, performance optimization, and maintainable code, while providing technical guidance and mentorship to other developers. Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering efficiency and software quality is also valued.
- The position supports EOE’s long-term technology modernization strategy by reducing technical debt, strengthening architectural standards, improving system interoperability, and delivering secure, sustainable solutions that meet the needs of a complex public-sector enterprise.
