Job description

Wellshade provides customer-focused IT support and managed services for small and mid-sized businesses. We are hiring a sharp, independent Freelance IT Support Engineer for a mix of remote work and onsite client visits (typically 2-3 days per week, 15-40 hours depending on workload). This is a contract role (B2B or 1099, not W2). Client sites are within roughly one hour of the Raleigh-Durham area and include commercial offices and industrial/manufacturing environments., Deliver high-quality onsite and remote support for Windows desktops/laptops, printers, Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, basic Entra ID), and standard network issues (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, switches, basic routing).

\n

  • Perform server and datacenter tasks as needed (Windows Server, VMware or Hyper-V maintenance, storage, backups).

\n

  • Execute network projects and upgrades with clear documentation.

\n

  • Maintain accurate, timely ticket notes and written handoffs in RMM tools so others can continue the work without ambiguity.

\n

  • Communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical clients and leave them confident the problem is understood and resolved.

Requirements

We are looking for a high-caliber technician who can execute cleanly with limited supervision, document thoroughly, and represent the company professionally on client sites. Recent experience has shown that success in this role depends less on raw technical knowledge and more on judgment, written communication, process discipline, and the ability to finish work without constant hand-holding., Work in commercial and industrial environments, including unconditioned or dirty manufacturing spaces. Occasional PPE and government-issued ID may be required. Ability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs is necessary (not constant)., 5+ years of hands-on IT support experience.

\n

  • Strong Windows and Microsoft 365 skills plus solid physical networking knowledge.

\n

  • Proven ability to work independently, follow established processes and checklists, and produce clear written documentation.

\n

  • Excellent troubleshooting and judgment - you solve problems rather than escalate every uncertainty.

\n

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

\n

  • Personal laptop with current generation hardware

\n

  • Ability to pass a background check.

\n

  • Professional appearance, conduct, and interpersonal skills suitable for client sites., Include your resume, relevant certifications, and a short (200-300 word) description of your experience supporting MSP or similar clients, with specific examples of Microsoft 365 work, network troubleshooting, and how you document and hand off tickets.

Benefits & conditions

Relevant certifications (CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft Modern Desktop Administrator, or similar).

\n

  • Datacenter or virtualization experience (VMware, Hyper-V, Windows Server).

\n

  • Comfort working in industrial or manufacturing settings.

\n

\n
