Job description

Join a dynamic architecture team focused on designing and modernizing enterprise web applications that are secure, scalable, resilient, and built for long-term maintainability. This role is a great opportunity for a hands-on Solution Architect who enjoys shaping modern front-end and back-end solutions, guiding technical direction, and partnering across engineering, security, infrastructure, and enterprise architecture teams. Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end solution architecture for modern enterprise web applications.
  • Translate business needs and technical requirements into practical, well-structured application designs.
  • Define application boundaries, components, integrations, APIs, data flows, and deployment patterns.
  • Create architecture artifacts such as diagrams, design documents, sequence diagrams, and decision records.
  • Recommend architectural approaches based on enterprise standards, delivery goals, and technical constraints.
  • Provide guidance on modern web application patterns, including React, Next.js, Angular, Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
  • Support decisions around client-side rendering, server-side rendering, static generation, and backend-for-frontend patterns when appropriate.
  • Advise teams on modular design, reusability, dependency management, and technology lifecycle planning.
  • Define API and integration strategies using REST, GraphQL, messaging, and event-driven approaches as needed.
  • Establish patterns for versioning, error handling, security, observability, and resiliency in APIs and integrations.
  • Design for containerized and cloud-native environments, including Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift.
  • Incorporate security, identity, authentication, authorization, secrets management, and encryption into solution designs.
  • Define non-functional requirements related to availability, scalability, performance, recovery, and maintainability.
  • Support observability planning through logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, monitoring, and alerting requirements.
  • Participate in architecture reviews, production readiness reviews, and technical design discussions across teams.
  • Help identify reusable patterns and opportunities to standardize common application capabilities.
  • Support modernization planning, target-state architecture, and transition roadmaps for legacy applications.

Requirements

  • Strong experience as a Solution Architect, Application Architect, Technical Architect, or similar technical leadership role.
  • Deep understanding of modern web application architecture and software engineering practices.
  • Hands-on knowledge of React and/or Next.js, Angular, Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
  • Experience designing APIs and integrating applications in enterprise environments.
  • Working knowledge of distributed systems, service-oriented architecture, or microservices.
  • Experience with containerized application environments using Docker, Kubernetes, or similar technologies.
  • Strong understanding of application security, identity, authentication, authorization, CI/CD, and modern delivery practices.
  • Ability to design for performance, resilience, availability, and observability.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.
  • Comfort balancing strategic architecture direction with practical delivery needs.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Red Hat OpenShift deployment and architecture.
  • Exposure to public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with API management, gateways, enterprise identity platforms, or messaging technologies such as Kafka.
  • Familiarity with service mesh, distributed tracing, and cloud-native observability tools.
  • Experience with DevSecOps and automated software delivery practices.
  • Background in modernizing legacy systems into cloud-native web applications.
  • Experience working in highly regulated, complex, or critical infrastructure environments.

Horizontal is committed to fostering a workplace where diversity, equity, and inclusion are valued and reflected in the way we work together. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and encourage qualified applicants to apply, knowing that different perspectives help build stronger teams and better solutions.
