Java Software Developer

The Software Developer (Java) - Project Lead will lead the design, development, and maintenance of South Carolina’s Medicaid web application and associated web services. This role involves both frontend and backend development, focusing on creating platform-independent, mobile-ready user interfaces and complex distributed systems. The position requires extensive experience in Java and web technologies and plays a critical role in migrating legacy Medicaid systems to modern platforms. Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and implement enterprise-level web-based distributed systems with responsive user interfaces.
• Lead frontend and backend development efforts for Medicaid web applications and web services.
• Perform unit and system testing, implementation, and maintenance of complex web systems.
• Collaborate with business analysts, software engineers, DBAs, QA, and infrastructure staff throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Support and maintain new technology development as part of a production support group.
• Utilize industry-standard frameworks such as Spring and adhere to software engineering best practices.
• Assist end-users and business analysts in translating business requirements into incremental software development projects.

• 7+ years of experience with Java development.
• 7+ years of experience with HTML, JavaScript, and JQuery.
• 5+ years of experience with EDI Transaction Sets (270/271, 276/277, 837).
• 5+ years of experience with MongoDB.
• Experience with Apache Tomcat application servers and Tapestry framework.
• Familiarity with UC4, ActiveMQ, Unix variants, Unix scripting, JDBC, SQL, and Subversion.
• Proficiency with development tools including Eclipse, NetBeans, and Maven.
• Strong communication, adaptability, problem solving, analytical thinking, and time management skills.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with Medicaid eligibility systems and Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS).
• Experience with JDBC and SQL databases.
• Experience with UC4 scheduling tool.
• Java J2EE Server or related J2EE certification.

Special Considerations:

• Candidate must be a current resident of South Carolina; no relocation allowed.
• Must pass a 7-year background check, credit history check, E-Verify, SLED check, and sign confidentiality and temporary worker agreements.
• Strict adherence to security and confidentiality protocols required.

• Full-time, 40 hours per week.
• 100% remote work arrangement.
• Contract duration of 12 months with possibility for extension.
