Job description

This is an opportunity for an Associate Data Scientist with an interest in advancing and applying innovative data science and analytical techniques to help solve some of our nation’s most critical challenges. We are looking for highly motivated, adaptive, and self-directed candidates with motivation to join our technical workforce, expand their technical skills and capabilities, and grow our work supporting the development and deployment of nationally important solutions through Analytics, Data Science, Machine Learning, Model-Based Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering, Systems Architecture and Requirements Engineering, and System-of-Systems and Systems Thinking practices.

As an Associate Data Scientist, you will leverage and grow your analytical, mathematical, data science, and systems engineering expertise to support the analysis, design, implementation, and integration of enterprise systems and systems-of-systems, as well as mission analysis for federal agencies.

Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Using your understanding of data science, systems and mission engineering, quantitative methods, and an awareness of sponsor needs to determine areas where MITRE can have an impact
  • Applying modern methods and tools such as Data Science, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Model-Based Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering, Mission Engineering, and Mathematical Modeling to assess capability needs, requirements, architecture, designs, performance constraints and gaps, proposed changes, and verification and test approaches
  • Evaluating and comparing alternative architectures and approaches using qualitative and quantitative techniques; exploring large trade-spaces and analyzing trade-offs
  • Identifying and developing metrics and analytical methods to measure and analyze relevant system and data properties, such as robustness, resiliency, interoperability, quality, and maintainability
  • Supporting requirements management, interface management, and architecture change management processes
  • Performing data analysis, modeling, and system design and development, including software development, systems modernization, and architecture
  • Supporting multiple tasks across several government-sponsored projects in a small- to large-team environment

Requirements

  • Typically requires less than 1 year of related experience with a related bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Familiarity with programming languages and analytical tools such as Python and MATLAB
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Digital Engineering (DE) concepts
  • Experience with statistical analysis, data analysis, and modeling
  • Interest in complex, multi-disciplinary data and analytical problems
  • Willingness and ability to learn new tools and concepts in a variable environment of government sponsors
  • This position requires a minimum of 3 days a week on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference given to qualified candidates with active clearance
  • Advanced degree in related field of study
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary modeling and simulation (physics-level, engineering-level and/or socio-technical-level)
  • Experience with Digital Engineering integration through internship, research, or academic projects

This requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s)
