Embedded Software Engineer, Real-Time Linux

As an Embedded Software Engineer at Maven Robotics, you will build the foundational real-time Linux platform powering the brains of our autonomous robotics systems. This is a critical role for developing high-performance, GPU-accelerated compute platforms tailored to robotics and machine learning workloads.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, and integrate POSIX-compliant systems for advanced robotics and machine learning applications
• Build frameworks that integrate controls, machine learning, and supporting algorithms with real-time tasks
• Collaborate with Controls and ML engineers to develop and optimize high-performance autonomous systems
• Develop and maintain drivers and interfaces for real-time robotic middleware
• Build tools to monitor, validate, and optimize system performance, ensuring reliable and deterministic behavior
• Establish reproducible build and test environments to support efficient development and deployment
• Develop robust solutions for over-the-air (OTA) updates, calibration management, and software deployment
• Partner with cross-functional teams to solve complex technical challenges while supporting functional safety, compliance, and traceability

Embedded Software, Software Engineering, Linux Operating System, Robotics, Maven, Manufacturing, Prototyping, Logistics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Industrial Robotics, * MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field

• Production experience with Linux PREEMPT_RT or similar real-time operating systems (e.g., QNX)
• Strong understanding of Linux device trees, scheduling, memory management, and multicore ARM SoCs
• Experience with interprocess/intercore communication, message passing, and robotic middleware (e.g., ROS 2, FastDDS, CycloneDDS, Zenoh)
• Proficiency in C/C++ and familiarity with development toolchains, including compilers, linkers, debuggers, and static analysis tools
• Familiarity with container technologies and runtimes (e.g., Docker, containerd, OverlayFS)
• Self-driven problem solver with strong prioritization skills and the ability to deliver in a fast-paced startup environment

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with communication protocols (e.g. Ethernet, EtherCAT, CAN, CANOpen)
• Knowledge of ARM SIMD/NEON architecture extensions
• Proficiency in additional programming languages (e.g. Python, Rust, Golang)
• Expertise with multi-language build systems (e.g. Bazel, Bob)
• Experience with Hypervisors (e.g. QNX Hypervisor, Jailhouse, Xen)
• Understanding of container orchestration systems and tools (Eg. Kubernetes)
