Job description
This Systems Engineer role supports ongoing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) projects, focusing on developing and modeling system architectures and requirements using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices. You will collaborate closely with customers, program leadership, engineering, production, and operations teams to ensure that project requirements and artifacts are accurately captured, modeled, and communicated. Success in this role requires proven systems engineering experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with project and customer teams of various sizes., * Collaborate with customers, program managers, engineering, production, and operations teams to understand and refine system and project requirements.
- Develop system designs using MBSE tools such as Cameo, ensuring models accurately represent system behavior, structure, and interfaces.
- Apply SysML to define and model system architectures, including system boundaries, capabilities, and functional features.
- Create and maintain system-level and subsystem-level requirements, ensuring they are complete, traceable, and aligned with project objectives.
- Define system bounds, capabilities, and functional features to clearly describe the intended system performance and behavior.
- Coordinate with cross-discipline team members to ensure the implemented design remains as close as possible to the intended system design and architecture.
- Monitor and manage full system-level requirements for the overall built system, ensuring the system continues to meet the intended requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor and manage validation and verification activities at both the system and subsystem levels, ensuring requirements are properly tested and confirmed.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with project teams and customer stakeholders of various sizes to present designs, requirements, and status updates.
- Complete assigned engineering tasks and project deliverables in a timely manner, meeting agreed schedules and milestones., This position is based on-site in Madison within a manufacturing-focused environment that supports UAV and related systems development. You will work in a small organization alongside approximately two other subject matter expert systems engineers, enabling close collaboration and direct access to decision-makers. The environment combines office-based systems engineering work with proximity to production and operations, offering insight into how designs are realized in practice.
Requirements
- 37 years of experience in systems engineering, ideally supporting complex systems such as UAVs or similar subsystems.
- Hands-on MBSE experience using Cameo or similar model-based systems engineering tools.
- Working knowledge of SysML for modeling system architectures, requirements, and behaviors.
- Understanding of systems-of-systems concepts and the integration of multiple subsystems into a cohesive overall system.
- Proven ability to develop and manage system and subsystem requirements, including definition of system bounds, capabilities, and functional features.
- Experience monitoring and managing validation and verification of requirements at system and subsystem levels.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional project and customer teams.
- Ability to complete tasks and deliverables in a timely and organized manner.
- Active security clearance or the ability to obtain a security clearance.
- United States citizenship., * Bachelors degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience in lieu of formal education.
- Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler or other similar MBSE tools.
- Expience in defense or aviation environments is a plus.
- Experience working with UAV systems, subsystems, or related aerospace platforms is highly desirable.
- Comfort working in a small organization and collaborating closely with other subject matter expert systems engineers., Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
