Job description

  • Analysing project gaps, Change Requests and Evolution Requests to identify the underlying functional need.
  • Developing functional scenarios and defining clear, consistent and testable system requirements.
  • Assessing the functional, safety, software and operational impacts of proposed changes.
  • Writing and maintaining system specifications and technical documentation, ensuring subsystem baseline coherence and end-to-end requirements traceability.
  • Collaborating with Software, Verification & Validation, Safety, Certification and Project teams.
  • Contributing to system design reviews and supporting implementation, validation and deployment.

Requirements

We value passion and attitude over experience. You don’t need to have every skill, but these will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or an equivalent technical discipline (Master’s level required).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in systems engineering and functional analysis.
  • Ability to translate complex functional scenarios into clear and structured system requirements.
  • Ability to write rigorous technical specifications in English.
  • Strong affinity for digital systems and a basic understanding of software development principles.
  • Curiosity, autonomy and willingness to learn railway signalling and ETCS/RBC systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines.

Strong assets include:

  • Knowledge of railway signalling, ETCS or RBC functionality.
  • Experience in requirements engineering or safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with DOORS 9 or a comparable requirements management tool.
  • Familiarity with UML, SysML, SADT or MATLAB.
  • Good professional proficiency in French.

Good professional proficiency in English is required, with particular emphasis on technical documentation and requirements writing.

The role is primarily based in Charleroi and may include occasional short-term technical assignments abroad.

Benefits & conditions

Join us on a lifelong transformative journey. The rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Work on a digital, safety-critical railway signalling subsystem.
  • Develop your expertise in ETCS Level 2 and RBC functionality.
  • Solve challenging functional and technical problems with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Contribute to a generic signalling product deployed on international railway projects.
  • Benefit from our flexible working environment and investment in learning and development.
  • Grow towards roles such as Senior System Designer, System Architect or System Engineering Manager.

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
