Job description
Tesla is seeking an experienced Vision Systems Engineer to apply their expertise in Machine Vision Inspection Systems to cutting-edge manufacturing equipment and high-speed manufacturing processes. As a Vision Systems Engineer, you will be part of a world-class team of engineers responsible for designing and building automated manufacturing equipment at Tesla factories. You will work closely with many organizations, both internal and external to Tesla, taking new battery designs from initial concept through to full production. The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems, and this role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to sustainable energy. What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, and deploy machine vision systems for manufacturing lines, including robot guidance and vision-based process control systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop requirements and provide solutions for inline vision inspection systems
- Commission the vision systems and drive the ramp of new products by characterizing baseline vision performance and capability
- Ensure manufacturing lines meet uptime, availability, and reliability metrics, and resolve production issues with a sense of urgency
- Develop best practices to improve vision system reliability, including process discipline, recipe version control, and system backup
- Develop vision software and algorithms using programming languages such as C++, C#, Python, or HALCON
- Organize cross-functional design reviews; collaborate with downstream and upstream process teams, quality teams on data analysis
Requirements
Do you have experience in Python?, * Degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience with machine vision systems
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them towards manufacturing process development
- Knowledge in selection of cameras, lenses, optics, lighting, and other hardware for image capture and processing
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and statistical background and ability to understand and explain theory behind vision algorithms
- Experience with image processing and machine learning in manufacturing applications
- Experience in high-volume manufacturing is highly desired
- Ability to travel
- Candidates are expected to uphold and actively promote sustainability principles in their daily work, operating in line with Tesla Global Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS&S) Policy and EMAS requirements, fostering a culture of continuous environmental improvement
