Wordpress Web Developer & Optimization Specialist

BigOrange Marketing is looking for an experienced, hands-on WordPress web developer who can take ownership of client website projects and bring strong technical judgment to a small, collaborative agency. You will build and improve WordPress websites, make practical recommendations about usability, performance, accessibility, and SEO, and work with our senior developer and marketing team to deliver results for clients. This is a full-time employee role for someone who enjoys leading projects while staying close to the work., Website Development & Design:

• Build, update, and maintain WordPress websites and landing pages using Beaver Builder or a comparable page builder.
• Customize themes, plugins, layouts, and templates to meet client needs; use HTML and CSS and practical JavaScript as needed.
• Turn creative briefs, brand direction, and messaging into responsive, user-friendly pages that support clear business goals.

Project Ownership and Client Collaboration

• Guide website work from requirements and planning through build, QA, launch, and follow-up improvements.
• Clarify scope, identify dependencies and risks early, keep projects moving, and communicate status and decisions to teammates and clients.
• Explain technical recommendations in plain language and help clients understand practical options and tradeoffs.
• Create and maintain useful documentation, reusable processes, and quality checks for recurring work.

SEO, Performance, Analytics, and AI Tools

• Apply sound on-page and technical SEO practices, including page titles, headings, internal links, image alt text, and structured data where appropriate.
• Use tools such as Google Search Console, Google Analytics 4, PageSpeed Insights, and a crawler to find and prioritize website improvements.
• Monitor site speed and Core Web Vitals and make practical improvements to images, caching, and front-end code.
• Use AI tools thoughtfully to support research, development, testing, and workflow efficiency; review AI-generated work for accuracy, quality, and client fit.
• Stay curious about changes in search, including AI-assisted search, and help the team adapt established SEO practices as the field evolves., The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience building, maintaining, and optimizing WordPress websites. They bring technical skill with page builders, HTML/CSS, SEO, and performance, alongside strong project management, clear client communication, and sound analytical judgment when using modern web tools.

• Several years of hands-on website development experience, or an equivalent record of delivering high-quality WordPress work.
• A strong portfolio of WordPress websites, with a clear explanation of your contributions and decisions.
• Experience building and maintaining WordPress websites using at least one page builder, such as Beaver Builder, Elementor, or Divi.
• Strong working knowledge of HTML and CSS, responsive design, and practical JavaScript.
• Good design judgment and the ability to turn creative direction and messaging into clear, user-friendly web pages.
• Working knowledge of on-page SEO, technical SEO fundamentals, website performance, and accessibility basics.
• Ability to own multiple projects, organize work, meet commitments, identify risks, and ask for support when an issue needs deeper technical expertise.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and clear communication, including the ability to explain technical recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.
• Familiarity with AI tools and the judgment to review their output for accuracy and quality.

Bonus Skills:

• Experience working in a digital agency or managing websites for multiple B2B clients.
• Experience with WooCommerce or other WordPress plugins used to support client needs.
• Experience with other CMS platforms, such as Squarespace or Wix.
• Experience building or updating landing pages, emails, forms, or campaigns in HubSpot; HubSpot certification is a plus.
• Familiarity with Google Analytics 4, Google Search Console, Google Tag Manager, or technical SEO audit tools.
• Experience with PHP, advanced JavaScript, or custom WordPress theme or plugin development.
