3d Models Adobe InDesign SolidWorks (CAD) Failure Mode Effects Analysis

Job description

As a Design Engineer, your duties will include:

  • Developing new medical device products and improving existing designs as part of a growing development pipeline.
  • Producing 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Taking ownership of design projects, progressing work from initial concept through prototyping, testing and into manufacture.
  • Building and testing prototypes within the development laboratory, using specialist test equipment and simulated clinical installations.
  • Identifying design issues, troubleshooting problems and implementing practical solutions.
  • Applying design-for-manufacture principles, considering materials, components, plastic moulding and machined parts.
  • Supporting design verification, risk assessments and FMEA activities within a regulated quality environment.
  • Working closely with colleagues across Design, Production and Quality, as well as external suppliers, to support product launches and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • A degree in Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or a related engineering discipline. Candidates at the start of their career, including those with around 1-2 years’ relevant experience, are encouraged to apply.
  • Good 3D CAD skills, ideally using SolidWorks, with the ability to produce accurate technical drawings with appropriate tolerances.
  • A sound understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including flow, fluid pressure and material properties.
  • An understanding of design for manufacture and how designs translate into practical, manufacturable products.
  • A practical, hands-on approach, with the confidence to build prototypes, carry out testing and work through technical challenges.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to take ownership of tasks and see them through to completion.
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within an experienced engineering team.
  • An interest in product development and the opportunity to learn within a regulated medical device environment. Experience with ISO 13485 or ISO 14971 would be beneficial, but the ability to learn and adapt is equally important.

Benefits & conditions

  • Salary of £37,000-£41,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • Permanent opportunity within an established and growing specialist manufacturer.
  • 37-hour working week across 4.5 days, with an early finish every Friday at 1:15pm.
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Annual salary review and Christmas bonus.
  • Excellent development opportunities, with guidance and support from experienced engineers.
  • The opportunity to take ownership of projects and see your designs progress from concept through to production.
  • Hands-on access to a dedicated development laboratory, specialist testing equipment and simulated clinical installations.
  • Varied work across mechanical and electronic devices, with opportunities to attend trade shows and visit suppliers, customers and hospitals.
  • Cycle-to-work and electric vehicle salary sacrifice schemes.
  • Flexibility where required and convenient rail links to Hertford.

If you’re an ambitious engineer looking to develop your design skills, take on meaningful projects and build a career in product development, we’d love to hear from you.
