Senior Software Engineer

You’ll work on application features, investigate difficult technical issues, and take part in decisions about how systems should be built and improved. The role also involves reviewing code, helping colleagues solve problems, and explaining technical choices so the team can make informed decisions.

What You’ll Take Ownership Of

• Design, develop, and maintain application features based on product and business requirements.
• Write clear, maintainable code that other developers can understand and extend.
• Develop and maintain APIs, backend services, and application components as required by the project.
• Work with databases and data models to support reliable application functionality.
• Break down technical requirements into manageable development tasks and provide realistic estimates.
• Review pull requests, identify potential problems, and give colleagues useful feedback on their code.
• Investigate bugs and production issues, trace their causes, and implement appropriate fixes.
• Test new functionality and existing features to reduce regressions during releases.
• Identify performance problems and recommend changes to improve application speed and reliability.
• Work with product, design, and quality assurance colleagues to clarify requirements before implementation.
• Contribute to discussions about system architecture, development standards, and technical trade-offs.
• Document important code changes and technical decisions for future maintenance.
• Help less experienced developers work through technical problems and improve their approach to development.
• Keep relevant team members informed when a technical issue affects an estimate, deadline, or planned release., We expect code to be readable, changes to be tested, and technical decisions to have a clear rationale. When something goes wrong, we want engineers to investigate the cause and communicate what they find.

As a senior member of the team, you’ll be expected to contribute beyond your own development tasks by reviewing others’ work, sharing technical knowledge, and helping the team make sensible engineering decisions.

You should have professional software engineering experience and be comfortable taking responsibility for features from development through testing and release.

We are looking for:

• Several years of professional software development experience.
• Strong programming skills in languages relevant to the team’s technology stack.
• Experience building, maintaining, and troubleshooting software applications.
• A working understanding of APIs, databases, application architecture, and common design patterns.
• Familiarity with Git or another version control system.
• Experience with code reviews, debugging, and software testing.
• The ability to assess technical options and explain their advantages and limitations.
• Good judgement when estimating work, prioritising problems, and deciding when a solution needs further investigation.
• Clear communication skills when working with engineers and colleagues from other functions.
• An organised approach to documentation and development work.

Experience with cloud platforms, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, or containerisation tools such as Docker is beneficial. Experience developing software for property management, real estate, or related business applications is also useful.
