Job description
You’ll be the go-to expert for the Windows virtual desktops that engineers use to do their work. You’ll manage the desktop images, user sessions, and application delivery, fix the most common problems that slow engineers down, and make the desktops faster and more reliable. You’ll also help move users and their data off older systems, solve tricky issues with engineering software like Matlab, Exceed, and NX, and watch performance and capacity so the team can plan. You’ll work closely with the team that runs the underlying cloud and network. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the primary technical owner for the Windows virtual desktop environment, managing the platform at the image, session, and application delivery level, and support ongoing migration and stabilization efforts after the PowerVDI transition
- Systematically identify, track, and resolve the top VDI pain points affecting engineering users, driving measurable improvement in desktop responsiveness and application reliability
- Manage the Windows VDI base image lifecycle, including OS patching and rollback, application deployment, and standardization aligned with the Software Store Standardization initiative
- Support and lead ongoing user data migration from legacy environments, and manage user onboarding workflows and access provisioning for new and migrating VDI users
- Resolve complex application compatibility issues on Windows VDI, including engineering applications (e.g., Matlab, Exceed, NX, and third-party simulation tools), and serve as the escalation point for desktop-tier issues that affect engineering productivity
- Monitor VDI session performance, resource consumption, and concurrency patterns, and provide capacity data to inform provisioning decisions and cost benchmarking by engineer persona
- Support the move of Windows deployment processes toward more automated, standardized models, aligned with broader CI/CD goals
- Ensure Windows VDI environments meet the company’s cybersecurity standards, and support vulnerability remediation workflows
- Work closely with the DT team on underlying infrastructure changes (AWS WorkSpaces or equivalent), networking, and cloud capacity, providing Windows desktop expertise while the DT team manages the cloud and network layers
Requirements
- Since this role involves access to U.S. export-controlled information, candidates must be able to obtain authorization for that access from the U.S. Government. Final offers are contingent on receiving this authorization.
