Data Engineer

The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) is seeking candidates for a Data Engineer in our Strategic Analytics Department. The primary responsibilities of this role are to support HAP’s Strategic Analytics team in building and maintaining reliable, analytics-ready data infrastructure that enables organizational reporting and informed decision-making. Working under the guidance of experienced analytics professionals, this entry-level position assists in the development and maintenance of data pipelines, database objects, technical documentation, and data quality controls across a wide range of data sources including health care, financial, operational, workforce, survey, and other datasets.

Candidates for consideration must have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, information systems, data science, analytics, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and technical training.

Candidates will have up to two years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, database development, software development, or a related technical role. Relevant internships, cooperative education experience, academic projects, or substantial independent project work may be considered in lieu of professional experience. Experience in health care is preferred but not required.

Successful candidates will demonstrate foundational knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts, familiarity with Python or other programming and scripting languages, exposure to database and ETL technologies such as SQL Server, Azure SQL, SSIS, and Azure Data Factory, experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools, particularly Power BI, and familiarity with version control systems such as Git. Candidates must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate successfully with both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a team-oriented environment.
