Job description

At Redwood Strong, the Technical Project / Program Manager (TPM) serves as a critical bridge between engineering, operations, customers, and executive leadership. This role is responsible for helping drive execution across multiple defense and technology programs while establishing the program management discipline needed to support the company’s continued growth.

This position is ideal for a motivated, hands-on professional who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and wants to grow alongside the company. The successful candidate is not afraid to roll up their sleeves, create executive-level briefings, track financial performance, organize deliverables, and help engineering leaders stay focused on mission execution.

Unlike traditional program management positions in large organizations, this role requires a “doer” mentality. The Technical Program Manager will actively support proposal efforts, customer engagements, program reviews, budgeting activities, schedules, risk management, and strategic planning. The individual will work directly with engineering leadership and company executives to create structure, improve reporting, and establish scalable program management processes (as needed) that enable Redwood’s next phase of growth.

The ideal candidate possesses a balance of technical aptitude, business acumen, strong organizational skills, and a genuine desire to learn the defense industry while contributing immediately.

Responsibilities

  • Support technical and defense programs from initiation through execution and delivery
  • Partner closely with engineering leadership to develop schedules, milestones, deliverable tracking, and program reporting
  • Prepare executive briefings, customer presentations, technical review packages, and strategic communications
  • Maintain program financials including budgets, forecasts, labor tracking, subcontractor oversight, and spend plans
  • Coordinate customer deliverables to ensure accuracy, quality, and on-time submission
  • Develop and maintain integrated project schedules across engineering, operations, and customer stakeholders
  • Track program risks, opportunities, action items, and mitigation plans
  • Support proposal development activities including schedules, pricing inputs, compliance matrices, and execution planning
  • Assist leadership in establishing and maturing Redwood’s program management processes, tools, templates, and governance
  • Facilitate internal and external program reviews, technical interchange meetings, and customer engagements
  • Ensure program documentation remains organized, current, and audit-ready
  • Collaborate with finance, contracts, engineering, cybersecurity, and operations teams to support successful program execution
  • Provide data-driven insights and metrics to leadership to support informed decision-making
  • Contribute wherever needed to help the business succeed, embracing the flexibility required in a growing organization

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Program Management, Computer Science, or related field
  • 4 - 8 years of experience supporting technical programs, engineering projects, defense programs, or product development efforts
  • Familiarity with Department of Defense, government contracting, aerospace, defense, or technology environments preferred
  • Experience building and maintaining schedules using Microsoft Project or similar program management tools
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to create professional executive and customer-facing presentations
  • Experience tracking budgets, labor plans, forecasts, and program performance metrics
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable working directly with engineers, technical leaders, customers, and executives
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter who takes ownership, follows through on commitments, and proactively identifies solutions
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
  • Experience supporting DoD, AFRL, DARPA, Space Force, Air Force, Navy, Army, or other federal programs
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM) principles
  • Experience supporting proposal and capture activities
  • PMP certification or willingness to obtain certification
  • Experience with Agile, Scrum, or hybrid development environments
