A closer look at the work
This role connects the product people see with the services that make it work. A feature may start with an applicant uploading a résumé, continue through a background worker preparing application materials, and finish with a status update or an email. You will help make those transitions reliable and understandable. The employer side has a similar journey: a hiring team creates a role, publishes it, receives candidate applications, and follows up through the hiring pipeline.
Product and interface development
Build interfaces that make the next action clear. Improve form validation, loading states, error messages, accessibility, and responsive layouts. Help users understand what has been saved, what is in progress, and what needs their input. Work on application review screens, profile editing, résumé previews, and employer workflows. Keep important actions usable when services are slow or a third-party integration is unavailable.
Backend systems and integrations
Develop APIs and background workflows that can recover from failures. Keep task state durable, avoid duplicate actions, and record evidence when an external system confirms an outcome. Integrate email events, payments, job data, and employer forms using the appropriate API or browser workflow. Treat timeouts, retries, changing form fields, and partial responses as normal engineering problems that need clear behavior and useful diagnostics.
Automation and AI features
Help improve the preparation of résumé edits, cover letters, and application answers. Use structured outputs and validation so generated material remains grounded in information the user provided. Build tests around the difficult cases, including missing information and mismatched inputs. For browser workflows, distinguish a completed submission from an attempted click, and make uncertain outcomes visible rather than reporting success prematurely.
Hiring tools
Improve the Careers site, application intake, résumé storage, screening questions, written interviews, and candidate communications. Make it easy for a hiring team to see an applicant’s contact information and application history. Help connect approved employer accounts and build job distribution workflows that can verify the published listing. Candidate assessment should support the hiring team; people remain responsible for hiring decisions.
How we approach engineering
Start by understanding the user’s problem and the existing workflow. Break the work into changes that can be reviewed and tested. Explain important tradeoffs, document integrations where needed, and investigate the cause of a failure rather than only its symptom. Pay attention to sensitive data, authentication boundaries, and what information is passed to outside services. Prefer useful tests that exercise meaningful behavior over checks that simply repeat the implementation.
Examples of impact
-
Reduce the time it takes to load an applicant’s workspace without loading unrelated data first.
-
Make an application workflow recover cleanly after an email verification or an employer form change.
-
Improve a résumé review experience so users can see, accept, and confirm each change.
-
Build an applicant intake flow that reliably saves a résumé and sends the next-step email.
-
Add monitoring that makes stalled tasks, provider errors, and unexpected duplicate actions easy to investigate.
These examples describe the work you may contribute to; they are not a requirement to have built every one of these systems already.
What to include in your application
Tell us what you personally contributed to a project, not only what the team shipped. A useful example explains the problem, the technical choices you made, the result, and what you would improve next. If you share a code sample, choose work you are allowed to share and remove confidential information. You do not need to disclose credentials, customer data, or proprietary source code.
The application process
Step 1: Submit your résumé and answer the three screening questions on our Careers site. We save your application and email a receipt to the address you provide.
Step 2: If you opt in on the form, we email a private link for a written interview with more detailed, role-specific questions. The link expires after 14 days. Your answers may be reviewed with AI assistance against job-related criteria; a person makes hiring decisions. You can contact info@applyline.ai to request an alternative.
The hiring team reviews applications and contacts candidates about any further steps. Submitting an application or completing the written interview does not guarantee an interview or an offer.

-
A practical approach to testing, security, and handling sensitive user information.
-
Clear communication about implementation choices, progress, and problems.
