Job description

We’re looking for an AWS Architect or Senior Technical Lead to own the technical direction on a set of active and upcoming engagements. You’ll start on a Lambda remediation project and then lead the modernization of an Oracle-based Operational Data Store (ODS) and its migration to AWS, along with ongoing SysOps support and additional modernization initiatives. This is a great fit for someone who enjoys designing the solution and also rolling up their sleeves to help the team build it.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the assessment and remediation of existing AWS Lambda functions, including runtime upgrades, refactoring, performance tuning, and security fixes
  • Architect the modernization of an Oracle ODS and its migration to AWS, including target platform selection (such as Amazon RDS for Oracle, Aurora PostgreSQL, or Redshift), schema conversion, and data migration strategy
  • Plan and execute migrations using tools like AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and the Schema Conversion Tool (SCT), with a focus on data integrity, minimal downtime, and cutover planning
  • Optimize PL/SQL, stored procedures, and ETL processes as part of the move to cloud native services
  • Support day-to-day AWS operations: monitoring, alerting, patching, cost optimization, and incident response
  • Build and maintain infrastructure as code using CloudFormation or Terraform
  • Set architecture standards and best practices across security, reliability, and scalability
  • Partner with client stakeholders to translate business needs into clear technical plans
  • Mentor engineers and review their designs and code
  • Produce architecture diagrams, runbooks, and technical documentation

Requirements

  • 8+ years in software or cloud engineering, with at least 4 years designing solutions on AWS
  • Proven experience leading Oracle database modernization and migration to AWS
  • Strong Oracle background, including PL/SQL, performance tuning, and data modeling
  • Hands-on experience with AWS DMS and SCT, and with AWS data services such as RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, or Redshift
  • Strong hands-on experience with Lambda and serverless services (API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS/SNS)
  • Solid SysOps background: CloudWatch, Systems Manager, IAM, VPC networking, and backup and recovery
  • Infrastructure as code experience (CloudFormation, Terraform, or CDK)
  • Proficiency in at least one language commonly used with Lambda, such as Python, Node.js, or Java
  • Experience leading technical teams or serving as the technical point of contact on client projects
  • Clear communication skills and comfort working directly with clients

Nice to Have

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional), AWS Certified Database Specialty, or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator
  • Oracle certifications (OCP or similar)
  • Experience migrating from Oracle to open source databases such as PostgreSQL
  • Consulting or professional services experience
  • CI/CD experience with tools like CodePipeline, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins
  • Familiarity with data catalog or data governance tools
