Sr. Systems Engineer Lead w/ Active Top Secret Clearance

LMI is seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer Lead to provide senior technical leadership and oversight for Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) modernization initiatives. This role combines independent solution-architecture judgment with practical AI and technology-governance leadership so complex solutions are technically feasible, secure, supportable, responsible, and aligned with VA enterprise constraints.

This position follows a hybrid work model, with an expectation of approximately 25% onsite presence at LMI’s Tysons headquarters or Washington, DC.

The successful candidate will:

• Evaluate solution alternatives, integration patterns, data architectures, and emerging technologies to ensure technical feasibility, security, and alignment with VA enterprise constraints.
• Lead the design and implementation of AI/ML solutions, including model selection, training, validation, deployment, and monitoring.
• Ensure AI solutions adhere to ethical guidelines, fairness, transparency, and accountability principles.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software developers, data scientists, and cybersecurity experts, to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and developers.
• Stay current with industry trends and best practices in AI, cloud computing, and systems engineering.
• Contribute to the development of technical documentation, including system design documents, API specifications, and user manuals.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, with a focus on AI/ML and cloud technologies.
• Proven experience in designing and implementing AI/ML solutions, including model development, deployment, and monitoring.
• Strong understanding of AI ethics, fairness, transparency, and accountability principles.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and guide cross-functional teams.
• Active Top Secret clearance required.
