Job description

We are seeking two experienced Server Technicians to support a one-day server rack-and-stack project. The technicians will be responsible for racking and cabling five servers that will operate in a cluster configuration.

Because the servers are being installed as part of a cluster, this project requires technicians who are highly detail-oriented and experienced with server hardware, fiber connections, and structured cable management. Accurate cabling is critical to ensure each server is connected according to the required configuration.

Scope of Work

Technicians will be responsible for:

  • Rack and securely install 5 servers in the designated server rack.
  • Complete all required power, fiber, and copper cabling for each server.
  • Install and properly route 4 x 10Gb fiber connections per server.
  • Install and properly route 3 x copper connections per server.
  • Follow the provided cluster configuration and cabling requirements carefully.
  • Verify that connections are made to the correct ports and equipment.
  • Properly seat and handle fiber connections to prevent damage or connectivity issues.
  • Perform clean and professional cable routing and cable management within the rack.
  • Label or organize connections as directed by the project documentation or onsite contact.
  • Visually verify all connections before project completion.
  • Troubleshoot and correct basic cabling or connectivity issues identified during installation.
  • Communicate any discrepancies, damaged components, missing materials, or configuration concerns to the project lead.

Requirements

Technician Requirements

  • Previous experience with server rack-and-stack installations.
  • Strong experience working in data center or server room environments.
  • Experience installing and handling 10Gb fiber connections.
  • Comfortable working with copper network cabling and server connectivity.
  • Understanding of server rack layouts, cable routing, and cable management.
  • Experience working with clustered server environments is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly when following port assignments and cabling diagrams.
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a two-person technical team.
  • Ability to complete the physical requirements associated with racking server equipment.
