What’s in it for you:
Join Trane Technologies as a Mechanical Engineer focused on commercial HVAC heating systems, where you’ll help design innovative, sustainable products that make a real impact. In this role, you’ll collaborate across engineering teams to develop and enhance unitary heating systems, translating customer needs into high-performing solutions from concept through launch. You’ll apply your expertise in gas-fired and/or electric heat system design, codes, standards, and certification requirements to solve complex technical challenges and ensure product safety, reliability, and compliance. This is an opportunity to lead key aspects of product development, including validation, risk assessment, root cause analysis, and the creation of critical engineering documentation such as 3D models, drawings, and specifications. Ideal for a technically strong and collaborative engineer, this role offers the chance to influence cross-functional teams, drive innovation, and contribute to the future of sustainable commercial HVAC solutions.
What you will do:
- Support the design and development of heating systems for unitary HVAC products by meeting the needs of internal and external customers, through documenting, understanding and prioritizing customer requirements.
- Apply technical expertise to solve design problems or to gauge appropriateness of product to various applications as it relates to commercial HVAC heating codes, standards, and certification requirements.
- Participate on project teams to meet performance, reliability, cost and schedule objectives.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation, including 3D models, bills of materials, drawings, and specifications.
- Conduct design FMEAs; develop and execute resulting risk mitigation plans.
- Both domestic and international travel may be required. Estimated travel is 10%.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Engineering Discipline.
- 2+ years experience contributing to technical aspects of product design projects, validation testing, and root cause analysis.
- Deep expertise in commercial HVAC heating system design for gas-fired and/or electric heat products, including system architecture, component integration, thermal performance, and product development from concept through launch
- Strong working knowledge of commercial HVAC heating codes, standards, and certification requirements, including ANSI Z21/CSA, UL/CSA, and IEC/EN requirements where applicable
- Experience applying combustion safety, electrical safety, temperature limit, and abnormal operation requirements in product design, validation, and release
- Proven ability to support product certification, qualification, and listing activities, including coordination with UL, CSA, AHRI, and other applicable certification or regulatory agencies
- Demonstrate senior-level capability in validation, risk assessment, root cause investigation, and cross-functional leadership across mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory teams
