Job description

We are seeking a hands-on backend systems engineer with meaningful production Rust experience, strong asynchronous programming skills, and a genuine interest in trading and financial markets.

You will build performance-critical infrastructure involving live market data, risk management, blockchain execution, and low-latency trading workflows. This position suits an engineer who enjoys technical ownership, close collaboration, and the pace of a small startup.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain risk and liquidation engines that manage exposure and improve capital efficiency.
  • Design and implement blockchain state machines supporting trading, settlement, and risk operations.
  • Develop services that maintain consistent state across asynchronous processes using coordination and consensus mechanisms.
  • Process live market data and coordinate time-sensitive actions across trading venues.
  • Build and maintain real-time workflows and WebSocket streams.
  • Develop high-performance REST and WebSocket APIs with millisecond-level response times.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in high-throughput backend systems.
  • Collaborate with founders and senior engineers on architecture, implementation, and system reliability.

Requirements

  • Approximately 2-4 years of relevant backend software engineering experience.
  • Meaningful, hands-on experience building or maintaining production systems in Rust.
  • Experience with asynchronous programming using Tokio or comparable Rust-based asynchronous systems.
  • Experience developing real-time, high-throughput backend services.
  • Low-latency or trading-systems experience.
  • Proficiency with multiple database types, such as relational, time-series, and key-value databases.
  • Meaningful startup experience.
  • Experience in fintech, crypto, trading, high-frequency trading, or blockchain.
  • Demonstrable interest in trading and financial markets.
  • Meaningful personal engineering projects, particularly in Rust or C.
  • Strong backend and systems-engineering fundamentals.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving, collaborative startup environment.
  • Ability to work onsite in New York City or San Francisco five days per week.
  • U.S. citizenship or Green Card status, with no current or future visa sponsorship requirement.

Production Rust experience is essential. Experience with C, C++, or another backend language does not replace this requirement.

Additional Experience Valued

  • VC-backed startup experience.
  • Distributed systems and concurrent programming.
  • REST and WebSocket API development.
  • Live data streams and time-sensitive processing.
  • Docker.
  • Public GitHub projects demonstrating systems knowledge and technical curiosity.

No specific degree or school requirement applies., * Bachelor’s (Preferred)

Benefits & conditions

  • Work closely with experienced founders and senior backend engineers.
  • Make a significant technical contribution within a small team.
  • Receive a competitive base salary and equity package.

Interview Process
