Job description
We are hiring a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Software Test Engineer to build and run automated test systems that validate embedded software and electronic hardware for aerospace and defense programs. You will design test benches, write automation in a Linux environment, and work closely with embedded, electrical, and systems engineers to make sure our products perform as specified before they ship. What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and maintain HIL test benches that connect real hardware to simulated system inputs and loads.
- Develop automated test scripts and frameworks in Python and/or C/C++ running on Linux.
- Write test plans, procedures, and test cases traced to system and software requirements.
- Execute verification and regression testing, then analyze results and log defects with clear root-cause data.
- Configure and troubleshoot Linux test hosts, including shell scripting, networking, drivers, and package management.
- Interface with instruments and buses such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, DAQ hardware, CAN, RS-232/422/485, Ethernet, and MIL-STD-1553.
- Integrate test automation into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous verification.
- Produce test reports and documentation that support customer reviews and qualification.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in software test, verification, or HIL testing for embedded systems.
- Strong hands-on Linux experience: command line, Bash scripting, system configuration, and debugging.
- Proficiency in Python for test automation; working knowledge of C or C++.
- Experience reading schematics and using lab equipment to debug hardware/software issues.
Benefits & conditions
- Meaningful work: your code verifies hardware that protects warfighters and keeps aircraft and spacecraft operating safely.
- Stability: a long-standing, financially strong company with consistent growth and long employee tenure.
- Profit sharing: employees share directly in the company’s success.
- Comprehensive benefits: medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus paid time off and holidays.
- Hands-on engineering: work directly with real hardware in the lab, not just simulations.
- Growth: room to expand your technical scope and move into senior and lead roles as the team grows.
- Collaborative culture: small, cross-functional teams where engineers have real ownership and visibility.
About the company
We are an established aerospace and defense manufacturer that designs and builds mission-critical hardware and systems for military, commercial aviation, and space programs. Our products fly on aircraft, satellites, launch vehicles, ground vehicles, and naval platforms around the world, where failure is not an option.
