Senior Python Backend Engineer, Django, Flask & FastAPI

We are looking for a Senior Python Backend Engineer for a International institution in Brussels, Belgium, with strong experience in Python, Django, Flask or FastAPI, REST APIs and database development.

You will contribute to the development of secure, scalable backend applications, working with modern Python frameworks, databases, containerized environments and DevSecOps practices within an international IT environment., Hybrid Brussels - 5 days onsite per month - Europe-based candidates within 2 hours of Brussels - Contractor - Fluent English, * Develop and maintain backend applications and services using Python and frameworks such as Django, Flask or FastAPI;

• Design, implement and integrate RESTful APIs and backend services;
• Develop and optimize database schemas, ORM models and SQL queries across relational and NoSQL databases;
• Apply secure coding practices, authentication, authorization, encryption and vulnerability scanning;
• Support automated testing, code quality and CI/CD processes using modern development and DevSecOps tools

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree;
• 6+ years of professional Python development experience;
• Strong experience with Django, Flask or FastAPI and RESTful API development;
• Experience with relational databases such as Oracle or PostgreSQL and NoSQL technologies such as Elasticsearch or MongoDB;
• Excellent knowledge of ORM, database schema design and query optimization;
• Experience with Docker or Podman, Kubernetes and Linux environments;
• Knowledge of secure coding, OWASP-related vulnerability scanning, authentication, authorization and encryption;
• Experience with Git or SVN, code quality tools such as pylint, Black or flake8, and AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot or Amazon Kiro;
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI or GitHub Actions, and familiarity with Ansible and virtual machine management;
• Fluent English, with availability to work onsite in Brussels 5 days per month.
