Job description
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of a technological platform that allows for the integration, processing, analysis, and visualisation of data generated by patient telemonitoring devices in hospital A&E departments and care homes.
Their main responsibilities will include:
- Platform design and development: defining and implementing a modular and scalable architecture that allows the integration of data from different clinical monitoring devices.
- Data integration and management: developing mechanisms to capture, store, and process the raw data generated by the devices, ensuring its integrity and traceability.
- Development of dashboards, graphs, and KPIs: designing and implementing interactive dashboards, graphs, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to visualise and analyse clinical variables, identify trends, make comparisons, and facilitate patient monitoring and decision-making.
- Configuration of variables and alarms: developing a flexible system that allows the incorporation of new clinical variables and the configuration of automatic alarms and notifications according to the parameters and thresholds defined by the medical teams.
- Integration with hospital systems: assessing the technical feasibility of integrating the platform with hospital information systems, especially those linked to A&E departments, identifying interoperability, security, and information access requirements.
- Identification of new opportunities: collaborating in the exploration of new technology applications, functionalities, and potential research and innovation projects linked to telemonitoring and digital health.
- Implementation and validation in the pilot scheme: supporting the implementation of the platform in pilot environments, conducting technical tests, resolving incidents, and collaborating with clinical teams to validate its operation and adapt it to user needs.
- Security and documentation: ensuring compliance with technical security and data protection requirements, and documenting the architecture, integrations, and developed functionalities.
Requirements
Bachelor Degree or equivalent, * Education: Hold a technical qualification (Higher Vocational Training [CFGS], ongoing or completed university studies, or equivalent training) in electronics, computer science, telecommunications, embedded systems, electronic arts/new technologies, or related fields.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years. Priority will be given to demonstrable experience in the development of IoT platforms, sensor integration, and data visualisation.
- Specific knowledge:
- Architecture of telemonitoring/remote monitoring systems (multi-device integration, cloud, dashboards, and alerts).
- Modelling and management of clinical or sensor data: variables, time series, trends, and comparisons.
- Design of key performance indicators (KPIs) and visualisations geared towards decision-making.
- Flexible configuration of variables, thresholds, and alarms (business rules/clinical rules).
- Interoperability with information systems (APIs, standards, feasibility assessment of HIS/A&E integration).
- Security, role-based access, and responsible data processing (GDPR/sensitive data).
- Full-stack development or equivalent: backend (APIs, data processing) and frontend (interactive dashboards).
- Programming of embedded systems/microcontrollers (Arduino, ESP32, or similar) and/or integration with monitoring devices.
- IoT protocols and patterns (MQTT, BLE, Wi-Fi, or equivalent); near real-time data ingestion and processing.
- Databases (relational and/or time series) and raw data management with traceability.
- Data visualisation and analysis UI (graphs, filters, historical data, KPIs).
- Version control (Git), Linux, and deployment (containers/servers).
- Python and/or C/C++ languages, plus a modern web stack (e.g., Node/React or equivalent).
- Languages:
- Oral and written communication skills in both Catalan and Spanish.
- English language skills to at least CEFR level B2, or First Certificate equivalent.
- Soft skills:
- Interdisciplinary work with clinical, healthcare, and research teams; ability to translate healthcare needs into technical requirements.
- Focus on field validation (A&E, care homes, or healthcare settings) and continuous improvement.
- Ability to design, implement, and maintain a complete telemonitoring platform (not just an isolated module).
- Installation, connection, and validation of devices in real-world environments (care homes, healthcare centres, pilot tests).
- Technical assessment of integration with hospital systems (requirements, risks, security, access).
- Availability for occasional travel to centres in Lleida, the Pyrenees, and Andorra.
- Writing clear technical documentation (architecture, integrations, user manuals/test protocols).
Also of interest
- Additional training or specialisation in electronics, microelectronics, IoT, programming, or systems development.
- Previous experience at the UOC or in European cooperation/knowledge transfer projects.
- Demonstrable experience with deployed IoT platforms featuring dashboards, alerts, and real-time data.
- Experience in assessing interoperability with existing information systems.
- Knowledge of healthcare environments, A&E, or care homes (or digital health/eHealth projects).
- Android, Docker, MQTT brokers (e.g., EMQX), and experience with hospital APIs or interoperability standards (conceptual knowledge of HL7/FHIR).
- A background in rapid prototyping and reproducible documentation.
- Ability to identify new functionalities and R&I (Research and Innovation) lines in telemonitoring.
- Experience working with mixed teams (clinical, technological, and logistics/processes).

About the company
Would you like a job in which your talent really has an impact on your surroundings? The UOC is not simply a university: our institution is dynamic, determined and ambitious, and drives social and educational changes. Over 30 years ago, we made history as the world’s first online university. Our goal is to generate, transfer and join together knowledge to build a more critical, responsible and non-conforming society.
We are seeking to recruit a support technician for the Centre for Digital Transformation and Governance Research (UOC-DIGIT), within the Urbanlog research group at the UOC.
REMOTECARE is a European cross-border cooperation project, funded by the Interreg POCTEFA programme, which aims to improve healthcare in the Pyrenees (Spain, France, and Andorra) through the development of telemonitoring solutions that allow patients treated in accident and emergency (A&E) departments to return home and remain under remote medical supervision, avoiding unnecessary hospital observation stays.
To achieve this, the project involves the development and validation of a technological solution that integrates clinical monitoring devices, dashboards, and alert systems, facilitating patient follow-up and the early detection of potential complications.
The project involves the participation of healthcare partners, including the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS), through the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital, and the Andorran Healthcare Service (SAAS), who participate in the development and validation of the solution in hospital A&E departments and care homes., At the UOC, our differences make us stronger. We want recruit the best talent while guaranteeing equal opportunities, without discrimination relating to gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other personal trait.
