In this role, you will design, develop and maintain reliable, secure and scalable software solutions that support CGI’s clients and internal business operations. Working across applications, APIs and data services, you’ll take ownership of development activities from initial design through to testing, deployment and ongoing improvement. You’ll apply modern engineering practices to deliver high-quality solutions while ensuring alignment with CGI’s security, quality and governance standards.

You’ll collaborate with Developers, Architects, Testers and business stakeholders to solve technical challenges, explore innovative approaches and continuously improve software delivery. Whether working independently or as part of an agile team, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute ideas, influence technical decisions and strengthen your expertise within a supportive engineering community.

Key responsibilities:

  • Integrate & Deliver: Develop and maintain RESTful APIs, backend services and system integrations.

  • Build & Optimise: Design data models and database integrations, ensuring efficient and reliable data access.

  • Secure & Assure: Apply secure-by-design principles, coding standards and quality assurance practices throughout development.

  • Collaborate & Innovate: Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver effective technical solutions and introduce improvements.

  • Review & Improve: Participate in code reviews, automated testing and continuous improvement activities.

  • Support & Maintain: Contribute to incident resolution, problem management and change activities to maintain reliable live services.

  • Document & Share: Produce clear technical documentation and share knowledge across engineering teams.

  • Deliver & Evolve: Contribute to Agile, DevOps or hybrid delivery environments, supporting efficient and predictable software delivery.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should have practical experience developing and delivering production-ready software, with a strong understanding of modern development practices and application architecture. You’ll be confident working with frontend technologies, backend services, APIs and databases, bringing a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement. Strong communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently and collaboratively will be essential.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Proven experience developing, testing and maintaining production-ready software applications.

  • Strong knowledge of web technologies, including HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

  • Experience developing backend services, RESTful APIs and application integrations.

  • Practical experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases.

  • Proficiency with version control tools such as Git.

  • Understanding of secure coding principles, software testing and quality assurance practices.

  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in Agile, DevOps or hybrid delivery environments.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to take ownership of development tasks and deliver high-quality work within agreed timelines.

  • Effective communication skills when engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience developing or deploying solutions within cloud environments, particularly Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud.

  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, automation and DevOps engineering practices.

  • Experience working within regulated, security-conscious or enterprise environments.

  • Understanding of non-functional requirements, including performance, resilience, scalability and security.
