Job description

CGI Federal is seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Engineer to join our AWS Infrastructure Engineering team supporting financial management systems and other mission-critical services operating in secure AWS Government Cloud environments. You will collaborate closely with both your immediate engineering team and additional account teams working on similar initiatives. You’ll also benefit from CGI Federal’s partnership with AWS Professional Services. This position is located onsite at a client facility in Washington, DC.

Your future duties and responsibilities

Oversee release and deployment of significant software or architectural updates across existing environments.

Design and implement automated infrastructure provisioning using tools such as Terraform.

Manage and troubleshoot Linux instances, translating configurations into IaC and ensuring optimal system performance.

Create and optimize Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) for scalable, efficient deployments.

Identify and remediate security vulnerabilities using AWS Security Hub, Tenable, and related tools; maintain strong security posture through automation and secure templates (AMIs, AWS Secrets Manager, AWS Certificate Manager).

Design and manage Security Groups with IaC to reduce attack surfaces and strengthen environment security.

Configure advanced network components such as load balancers, firewall rules, and AWS Transfer Family (SFTP).

Provision, track, and validate storage resources (EC2, S3, EFS) to meet application team requirements.

Implement and maintain comprehensive monitoring and alerting for CPU, memory, I/O, and network performance.

Collaborate with security and operations teams to configure compliance and monitoring tools (Splunk, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, log pipelines).

Partner directly with federal customer engineering and operations teams to execute complex technical tasks.

Work independently within defined objectives, documenting architecture and implementation decisions and providing clear status updates to leadership.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field or 10+ years of cloud engineering/architecture experience.

Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (Ports, Protocols, IP).

Expertise in AWS administration, Terraform IaC, Ansible, AMIs, Secrets Manager, Certificate Manager, EC2 scripting, and Lambda.

Advanced knowledge of AWS security and management services (IAM, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, KMS).

Strong understanding of AWS storage technologies, including EBS and S3.

Proficiency with Git version control.

Experience with at least one programming language (Python, Java, Go, TypeScript/JavaScript, Ruby, C#, etc.) or a scripting language (Bash, POSIX shell, PowerShell).

Demonstrated ability to lead development efforts and collaborate effectively across teams.

Ability to quickly learn new technologies and stay current with industry certifications.

Desired Qualifications
