Backend Engineer - SC Cleared

Contract: 6 months · Rate: £575/day inside IR35 (more available for the right profile) · Location: Remote-first, occasional travel if needed · Clearance: Active SC required

We’re looking for a senior Backend Engineer to act as technical lead for backend development within a delivery pod, working for a UK national law enforcement agency through a global IT services provider. You’ll own the design of event-driven, CQRS-based systems that underpin critical national services.

What you’ll do

• Lead backend development within your pod, setting technical direction and standards.
• Design and build event-driven services using CQRS and Event Sourcing patterns.
• Develop APIs and distributed services on Azure, using Azure Service Bus for messaging.
• Review code and designs, and guide other engineers on architecture decisions.
• Work closely with architects, product owners and delivery teams to ship secure, reliable services.

• Proven commercial experience with CQRS (essential).
• Event Sourcing and event-driven architecture.
• Strong .NET / C# (Java considered, but C# preferred).
• Azure, including Azure Service Bus.
• API development and distributed systems design.
• Experience leading or mentoring engineers.
• Active SC clearance (essential, no sponsorship).
